 Langley Speedway
Posted by:  Bob Barney-RaceRap.com on October 14, 2019 at 7:38am

Hampton, VA (10-12-19) It was the final week of championship night at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway as the final six race divisions were to crown its champion. In a celebration of achievement and in some cases, outright survival. No doubt the evening was certain to be special and perhaps, some unfinished business remained? On hand to do battle one last time in the 2019 race season were the Bojangles UCars along with the Riverside Paper Pro Six’s. Also there was action from the Harris Truck Super Trucks, Old Skool Video Games Super Streets and the Taylor Waste Services Late Models. Then closing out the evening would be the Parts Barn Enduros which has been quite the talk of the season. Its championship night and here’s the recap of all the race action.

Bojangles UCar 25 Laps: Mike Farley was on the pole for the UCar series feature. The pole lap was recorded in at 19.337 seconds kept Michael Waters from the top spot by only seven thousandths of a second. The green flag was shown to the field and coming around to lead the first lap would be the pole sitter Mike Farley. Rolling on the high line is Michael Waters taking a few looks at the lead but soon backs off and falls in line. On back its Austin Davis in third, Tyler Borden fourth and Derek Roberts fifth. But then trouble for the second place car of Michael Waters who comes to a stop in turn three. Once cleared, racing resumed and this time the leader Farley is chased by Davis. But as each lap goes on the board, so does the lead that the leader produces. Halfway in the feature saw Farley’s lead amount to a near half a straightaway in length. Late stages in the feature and the race leader is still hooked up, pulling away from the second place ride of Austin Davis. Final lap, Mike Farley makes the circuit and would cross the stripe first by a margin of 0.966 seconds. Mike Farley from Victory Lane, “Thank you very much, I was blown when Michael fell out. I knew he was going to be tight all day, I got a good restart fortunately and then I was hustling the whole time. So, I was definitely bummed I know that”. Mike Farley would also claim the UCar series 2019 tack championship.

Race Results:

#3 Austin Davis; 25
#2 Tyler Borden; 25

Riverside Paper Pro Six 30 Laps: Jared Clark earned the pole in Pro Six qualifying showcasing his 17.385 second effort. Taking the second spot just one thousandth of a second off the pole time was Travis Wall. Eric Schaffer, JB Sipe and Scott Allen were the top five in qualifying. Green flag racing ensued and in a side by side battle for the lead, Jared Clark leads lap one. But on lap two, big wreck on the backstretch when Scott Allen and JB Sipe get together for the races first caution. Once cleanup was complete, racing resumed as Jared Clark continued to lead but when the green flag dropped. Jared Clark dropped back too and losing two spots on the track as Travis Wall becomes the new leader. Coming through with Wall would be Eric Schaffer for second as Clarke settle in third. For Travis Wall who comes into the final race down by five championship points. It’s a must win and hope for misfortune for the points leader Jared Clarke. Halfway into the race, Wall continues to lead and is safe for now, Clarke continues all alone in third. Latter laps in the race saw much of the same as cars on the track were scattered and single file uncontested for position. Travis Wall’s lead was a near half a straight away in length and all by himself. Final lap of the final turn, coming to the checkered flag its Travis Wall by 1.795 seconds for the race win. Travis Wall with words in Victory Lane, “Man, I thought that I kinda jumped the start on the second restart. I got a good launch but we got cleared in one and two and drove away. The fun thing in our class to keep costs cheaper, were only allowed to buy one tire a week. This tire has been on the car all season, it all balances out and keeps the costs down”. Jared Clarke would win the 2019 Pro Six division series championship at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway.

Harris Truck Shop Super Trucks 25 Laps: Rick Poust claimed the Super Truck series pole clocking in his 19.215 second lap. Taking his rightful place on the front row in second was Chase McAdams just twenty thousandths of a second off the pole time. With the green shown on the speedway, the roar of the engines soared into turn one and coming around to lead lap one was Chase McAdams. But the leaders stayed side by side and coming around to lead lap two was the pole sitter Rick Poust. Finally, Poust gets the upper hand and clears McAdams to secure the point. Ryan Huff who started dead last on the grid made his way to third with Chris Munger and Paige Cain as the early top five. Still early in the feature, McAdams was not letting the leader get away keeping within two lengths of the leader. Halfway in the feature saw Poust and McAdams in a two truck break away. McAdams in one lap would close in on the bumper of the leader, then next lap, falls back. But then on lap twenty one, McAdams gets a run, sneaks in a fender, gets position and takes the race lead. But then troubles for Poust who goes off pace and on to pit road. From there, Chase McAdams would motor on to win the Super Truck feature winning by 0.517 seconds. Chase McAdams with words from Victory Lane, “He was coming fast, can’t thank Jimmy Huff enough, my dad, my girlfriend and everyone at Langley Speedway. All the fans, you all keep us running and thanks to everybody who has always helped us”. Rick Poust would be crowned the Super Truck series championship at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway.

Old Skool Video Games Super Streets 40 Laps: Gordon Weeks was back on the pole sporting his 18.921 second lap. Renno Marchetti would get the second starting position as Colby Vance, Nick Sample and Landon Abbott were the Super Street series best in the afternoon time trials. With the green high in the air, its Renno Marchetti who gets the top spot on lap one. Pole sitter Weeks tucks in on second where its Vance, Abbott and Sample the top five. Troubles for the points leader Dale Parro who already started near the tail end of the field has contact and appears to been slowed. Parro who came in with a ten point advantage over Gordon Weeks who currently would ride in third. Several laps in, Marchetti leads by five lengths over Vance as Abbott climbed to third. Laps later, slower race traffic benefits Colby Vance who is at the leader’s bumper. Halfway in the race, Vance is now seen poking a fender under the leader to see if it would stick. Nose to tail were Marchetti and Vance till they were side by side when Vance gets the drive off to take the race lead. With ten laps left, Colby Vance in the clean air began to put some distance between himself and Marchetti. On back and near a full straightaway length in distance, Landon Abbott controls third and hoping for a caution. But then Abbott gets his wish as the caution waves for Sean Calway going around. Back to the green and with nine laps to settle the feature and the championship, the green flag waves but the yellow comes back out when Thomas Gildea goes around. The green comes back out and its Vance who continues to show the way but then comes Abbott in a bump and run but Vance holds on to the point, but then another race caution. Nick Sample, Tommy Sweeney and Tillman Heuer are all involved as seven laps remained. Pole sitter Gordon Weeks would also go behind the wall ending his chance at the 2019 Super Street championship. The green flag once again was over the speedway and this time Colby Vance gets the good restart and continues his race lead. Then its Landon Abbott, Renno Marchetti when the caution flag waves again for Thomas Gildea who has a motor expire. After a lengthy clean up, with four laps to go as Vance takes the green flag. But its Abbott from the outside making the charge but the charge would come up short as Vance secures the point. Abbott then gets loose and falls back allowing Colby Vance to go on and win by 1.182 seconds. Colby Vance from Victory Lane, “Man I was hollering when that first caution came out. I did not want to see that, I was able to drive up to Renno, catch him for the win there. Man, that was a wild race, I knew there was going to be a lot of cautions. I hope it was a great show for the fans but I gotta thank all my guys and sponsors. It’s a helluva way to end the season right here”. Dale Parro would be crowned the 2019 Super Street track champion at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway.

Taylor Waste Services Late Models 100 Laps: Needing only to start the race to clinch the 2019 Late Model championship. Greg Edwards put his hot rod on the series pole with a lap at 15.833 seconds. Connor Hall would start second as Michael Hardin, Danny Edwards and Mark Wertz were the five quickest in qualifying.   With the green showing, Greg Edwards quickly puts away Connor Hall for the early race lead. Danny Edwards one spot bettered himself to third, then its Mark Wertz on the move in fourth and rounding out the early top five was Michael Hardin. Laps later, it was Greg Edwards getting the five car length lead as Connor hall mirrored the leaders every move. By lap eighteen, the leaders would lap the first car of Michael Sutphin but it would neither help nor hurt the race lead. On back, it was all single file and cars scattered all on the track. Lap thirty saw third place Danny Edwards closing in on second Connor Hall and noticing the close rate, Hall concedes the position. The brief battle allowed Greg Edwards to put further distance as he would then show a near half a straightaway length lead. Just before the halfway, the races first caution occurred when Brenden Queen goes around in a spin. The caution bunches back up the field when green flag racing took to the track. Greg Edwards with the great jump maintains the lead followed by Danny Edwards, Connor Hall, Michael Hardin and Mark Wertz. Past the halfway, Greg Edwards race lead was two lengths as Thomas Marks battles with Wertz for fifth. Laps later, Marks would pass Wertz and then Hardin to take fourth. Back to the leaders, Greg Edwards has set sail whose lead was twelve lengths over brother Danny Edwards. But the lead soon vanished when the caution waved for Zach Lightfoot going around in turn three. With the green flag once again over the speedway, Connor Hall takes a look under Greg Edwards but he’s able to hold him off. Then comes Danny Edwards who also takes a peek and he too gets held off by the race leader. With the lead secured, best battle on the track was for fourth as Mark Wertz had it and Thomas Marks wanted it. With that battle to be determined, the latter laps of the feature were on. Greg Edwards had built up his seven car length lead in front of Danny Edwards who was trying to track the leader down. Final lap, Wertz and Marks still battling for fourth but up front and crossing the stripe first was Greg Edwards by 1.087 seconds. Greg Edwards from Victory Lane, “That’s the way I wanted to end it, the car was really good. I gotta think James Long, everyone that helps, Phillip Goodwin, Ashly. It takes up a lot time out of our lives to do this, I appreciate everything they give to me. It’s been a dream season, Charlie High, one helluva engine builder and I’m proud to be driving one of his motors”. Parts Barn Enduros 30 Laps: Alex Floroff pulled the one pill to get the start on pole as Phil Nelson would get to start second in row one. Series points leader Colby Vance would start fifth coming in with a twenty point lead over Alex Floroff and Chris Kane starting sixteenth. The green flag waved and leading the first lap was Alex Floroff. Picking up spots on the first lap was Colby Vance to second when the first red flag brought a stop to the action in turn four. Back to the green and Alex Floroff is the leader but here would come Colby Vance to the front. Floroff would hold second as Richard Ellis, Michael Joyner and Phil Nelson as the top five. After a series of stops to the race, Richard Ellis would take second from Floroff who then was all over the race leader. But just as Ellis goes for the lead, another red flag stop to the race. Back to the green, race leader Colby Vance gets the early jump but then drifts up the hill on his own allowing Richard Ellis to take the lead. Halfway in the race and were right back to the red flag for another Enduro wreck. With cars scattered all over the track, Colby Vance is at the rear bumper of the race leader. Michael Joyner would take third and, on the move, headed to the front. But then the leader, Richard Ellis began to drive away from Vance. Without the help of slower race traffic, it was Richard Ellis winning the Enduro feature by 5.857 seconds. Richard Ellis from Victory Lane, “A few times I had to thread the needle, I was trying to get lap cars in between us and make the gap wider from Colby. I want to thank him for running me clean, it’s funny but his teammates didn’t run me clean and they don’t even run up front. You got the ninety nine and the eleven trying to block me, he almost stop me on the backstretch the ninety nine. So here I am in Victory Lane, congrats to Colby, Parts Barn who baby wooooo!” Colby Vance claimed the 2019 Enduro series track championship at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway.
