54th SEASON OPENER SET FOR CARAWAY SPEEDWAY MARCH 17th
Event is Kickoff for 2019 SMRS and 602 Tour Season
(Sophia, NC): The fifty-fourth season at Asheboro, NC’s Caraway Speedway kicks off this Sunday, March 17th at the .456 mile speedplant. The Southern Modified Racing Series headlines the event with a 125 lap feature for the “mighty mods”.
The event, rescheduled from March 10th, features many of the area’s best Modified teams including two-time and defending SMRS Champion, Jeremy Gerstner from Wesley Chapel, FL in the “Shady Grady Racing” modified. Also entered is Tim Brown in the Jerry Hunt SuperCenter #83 along with Mike Norman, Burt Myers, Trey Hutchens, John Smith and Bobby Measamer, Jr. Jimmy “Showtime” Blewett has also added his name to the entry list along with Tom Buzze, Jason Myers and Darin Redmon. Also expected are Matt “Big Money” Hirschman and Jon McKennedy in Tommy Baldwin’s 7NY and others.
Other races Sunday include a 35 lapper for the 602 Modifieds, a 60 lap feature for the 602 Super Limited Series with many of last year’s veterans along with several newcomers in each division expected to compete. Also on tap is a 40 lapper for Caraway Speedways new “feature’ division, the Late Model Sportsman division, 20 laps for the Mini Stocks and a 15 lap feature for the UCAR’s.
Precision Pole Award qualifying for the Modifieds begins at 1:50 pm followed by Late Model Sportsman qualifying.
Grandstands open at Noon for practice for all divisions. Pole Awards and pre-race ceremonies begin at 2:15 pm and the green flag drops on the first race at 2:30 pm.
Admission is only $20.00 for adults and youth 7 – 14 are $6.00. Kids 6 and under are free.
