PRELUDE TO THE NORTH-SOUTH SHOOTOUT AT ORANGE COUNTY SATURDAY
Southern Modified Racing Series Features Tight Point Battle
Eight Divisions on Tap for October 20th Event
(Sophia, NC): The Southern Modified Racing Series will wrap up season three this Saturday night at the lightning fast Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC. The event has been re-branded as the “Prelude to the North-South Shootout” due to the addition of a ton of bonus money posted by the series. Any Modified competing in the event this week and the North-South Shootout on November 8-10 will receive a $500.00 bonus making the $1,500.00 to start race one of the highest paying Modified races in the south and should the OCS winner claim the win at the “Shootout”, there is another $5,000.00 bonus waiting.
The OCS event features a close point race between 2017 SMRS Champion, Jeremy Gerstner and Tim Brown. Brown chopped a handful of points off Gerstner’s lead with a win in the last SMRS event at Hickory last month and has his sights set on Gerstner at Orange County.
In addition to Gerstner and Brown, the entry list includes some of the biggest stars in Modified racing. 2017 SMRS runner-up Brandon Ward, Trey Hutchens, Mike Norman, Tom Buzze, John Smith, Daniel Yates and Jamie Tomaino are among the regular SMRS runners set to compete. Drivers also expected include Jon McKennedy in the potent Tommy Baldwin owned 7ny, previous OCS winner Gary Putnam, “Big Money” Matt Hirshman, Bobby “Farmer Ted” Measmer and former NASCAR Southern Modified Champ Andy Suess, Jason Myers and James “the Rocket Launcher” Civali in the Hillbilly Racing #79. Others will be announced as confirmed.
In addition to the SMRS “Tour Type” Modifieds, there will be action from the “602 Super Limited” series along with the “602 Modifieds”, Limited Late Models, Mini Stocks, the Allison Legacy series, UCAR’s and as an added bonus there will be a special Street Stock 40 lapper featuring MASS rules.
Grandstands open at 4:00 pm with qualifying set for 5:30 pm. A big on-track autograph session begins at 6:20 and racing starts at 7:00 pm. Admission for Adults is only $20.00 and Youth 7-14 are only $5.00 for all the action. KIDS 6 and under are FREE.
