CLAIM WINS IN CARAWAY LABOR DAY CLASSIC
(Sophia, NC): A steamy Labor Day at Caraway Speedway saw a full slate of racing at the .456 mile oval. Even an early afternoon rain shower couldn’t slow things down.
In qualifying, Buddy Allred set fast time in the Limited Late Models. Amber Lynn was quickest in the Bowman Gray Sportsman division with Brad Robbins in the 602 Tour Modifieds, Chuck Wall in Mini Stock, Alex Fleming in the Chargers and Zach Bralley in the UCAR’s rounding out the pole winners for the day.
The UCAR’s kicked off the racing action with fast qualifier, Zach Bralley taking home the win after the #56 was DQ’ed in post-race inspection. Gary Dillard, Steven Collins, Guy Bralley and Austin Vance rounded out the top five.
The Bowman Gray Sportsman division was up next and the top six invert put birthday boy, Casey Kepley on the point for the start of their 40 lapper. Kepley led the first lap before Tommy Neal blew out the candles on Kepleys cake and took over the top spot with Amber Lynn in tow. Lynn followed Neal but by lap 12 she was inside the #21 of Neal. They raced side-by-side thru lap 17 when Lynn’s car slipped allowing Neal to pull ahead until Lynn made the pass for the lead bringing Justin Taylor along for the ride. The caution flew on lap 22 for Kepley and Neal and Kepley pitted. On the restart Lynn pulled away from the field with Taylor in tow with Neal charging back after his stop for a new right rear tire. Neal managed to squeeze by Lynn bringing Taylor along. Another quick caution on lap 35 saw Lynn in the pits for a new right front setting the stage for the final five laps. Neal held on for the win while Taylor edged Lynn for second by half a hood. Kepley finished fourth with Tim Talley rounded out the top five.
Fastest Mini Stock qualifier, Chuck Wall gave it everything he had while trying to chase down Johnny Baker but it was to no avail as Baker held off Wall on a lap 13 restart to take the win. Michael Tucker finished third ahead of Tyler Bush and Barry Wilson. Andy Spears, Michael Lowery, Mark Baker, D.J. Dean and Jeremy Seeley completed the top ten.
It took Buddy Allred just two laps to move from his sixth starting spot to the front of the Limited Late Model pack. Allred survived two double file “cone restarts” to hold off a charging Coy Beard for the win. Eddie Cox finished third with Michael Caudill and Amber Lynn completing the top five.
The “602 Modified Tour” saw quick qualifier, Brad Robins move from the back to the front finally besting his team car with Robbie Brewer at the keyboard with only three laps to go. Robbins got by Brewer on lap 32 of their 35 lapper to claim the win over Brewer, Brandon Ward and Richard Trotter.
Alex Fleming wrapped up the nights action claiming the win over a fading Austin Harris whose brakes gave out with only a handful of laps remaining. Harris hung on for second ahead of Christian Joyce, Gerald Robertson, Jr. and Austin Taylor.
