Beautiful weather greeted fans and competitors to an action packed evening of racing excitement Saturday night at Southern
National Motorsports Park. The May Day 200 featured 6 divisions running 7 feature races, Limited Late Models, Bandos, Mini- Stocks, Legends, Allison Legacy Touring Series and Any Car classes added up to a fun filled evening at the 4/10 of a mile Nascar Hometrack. The Solid Rock Carriers Limited Late Model race #1 was a barn burner and after 40 laps, Andrew Grady of Raleigh visited victory lane followed by Clay Jones, Wilson and Tim Allensworth. Chris Chapman and Eric Gerchek rounded out your top 5 finishers in the highly competitive division. The Bando feature was nose to tail action and when the dust settled Ethan Johnson from Fuquay Varina was victorious followed under the stripe by Matthew Gurganus and Parker Frazier. Shoutout to Gurganus on his best run ever at the 4/10 mile speedplant. The Carolina Mini- Stock touring series 50 lap featured numerous lead changes and battles with multi time winner Brandon Clements holding off Kris Hetu and Joseph Pittman for the victory. James Stroud and Shane Canipe ran 4th and 5th when the checkered flag waved, Stroud led early before gremlins attacked his stout hotrod. The Legends feature winner was Mason Diaz from Va., Diaz held off Burlington's Kade Lambert who roared under the waving flag with a career best 2nd place finish followed by Emily Day in 3rd place. The Allison Legacy Touring Series stars and cars winner was Brett Suggs who waged a race long battle with Ethan Elder to pull out the victory, Kyle Campbell rounded out your top three finishers. The winner of the second 40 lap feature for the Limited Late Model feature was Wilson's Clay Jones, he had his hotrod dialed in and held off Andrew Grady to score the popular victory, Chris Champman rounded out the top three finishers. Mike Parrish in his beautiful #32 P&G Racing Hotrod won the popular Any Car Division to round out the evening.
Southern National roar's back in action on May 26th with the K&N Night at the Races featuring twin 75 lap features for the Late Model Stock Car's, Charger Division 35 laps, Mini-Stock 35 laps, Legends 25 laps, Bandos 20 laps and Any Cars 15 laps plus the East Coast Flathead Ford Touring Division for a huge Memorial Day Weekend Celebration. Southern National Motorsports Park is located in Lucama, N.C., 8071 Newsome Mill Road just a few miles off highways 301, I-95 and state road 581.
