St. Johns, PA (7/7/2017)- Somehow storms in northeastern Pennsylvania Friday evening spared Evergreen Raceway and their regularly scheduled Friday night show went off without a hitch. When it was all said and done, Steve Shultz of Drums picked up his first Himmer Graphics Late Model win of the season, In an all out battle to the checkers, Randy Schlenker of Walnutport held off Mike Pollock to score his third Barbush Automotive Street Stock win of the year. Just past halfway, TJ Kapish of Mountaintop made a three wide move to take the lead and the checkered flag for his first career Evan’s Roadhouse Four Cylinder victory and Gene Drew of West Milford, NJ held off a late race challenge by Sean Verwys to score his first Evergreen Legends Victory. Evan Rygielski of Wilkes-Barre stayed smooth throughout and went on to notch his first Bandolero victory.
Francis Gross III led the Late Model field to the drop of the green flag. He led the opening circuit over Steve Shultz and Jacob Kersetter.
With nine laps complete, Shultz made a bid for the lead stick. Over the remaining laps the former Street Stock and Late Model champion opened up a gap between himself and second place finisher, Gross.
In his rookie Street Stock season and after winning his first career heat race, Mike Pollock started from the pole and then led the first circuit of the 30-lap Street Stock feature over Randy Schlenker, Todd Ahner, Frank Petroski and Eric Kocher.
Without any yellow flags in the first half of the event, the top three contenders remained in the same order on track, closely watching on another and hoping for the opportunity to capitalize on a mistake.
Following a yellow on lap 17, Schlenker drove side by side with the leader and then edged Pollock to lead the lap. He eventually cleared Pollock. Meanwhile, Ahner still sat third, taking it all in.
Schlenker held off several pass attempts by Pollock in the latter stages of the show to take his third win of the season. Pollock earned a career best second, followed by Ahner. Kocher rebounded from an earlier incident to finish fourth, followed by Pawlicki, who ran in the top five the entire evening.
Pollock and Schlenker were heat race winners.
From the pole, Josh Oswald led the Four Cylinder field to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap contest. Shawn Kistler took the top spot to lead lap one, followed by Oswald, Devin Schmidt, Austin Beers and Corey Edelman.
The entire event was action packed, especially near the front. With Kistler still showing the way on lap five, Schmidt overtook Beers for third. He moved by Oswald a lap later to take second and then TJ Kapish slipped his way into third.
Just past halfway, Kapish attempted several three wide moves to overtake the leads. He cleared Schmidt on lap 10 and then got by Kistler and moved into the lead on lap 11.
Without a yellow flag to slow the show, Kapish managed to hold off his competition in the action packed six minute feature. He took the checkers for his first victory in the division over Schmidt. Jimmy Ayre made a late race charge to finish third, followed by Edelman and Harry O’Neill.
Beers, Edelman and Brayden Spencer were heat race winners.
