Nascar Whelen All American Series NC State Champion Travis Swaim Of High Point Wins Mid-Atlantic Championship 350

October 18, 2009

The prestigious Mid-Atlantic Championship 350 featured a 250 Lap Late Model Stock event. Three Time Track Champion & Nascar Whelen All Amercian Series NC State Champion Travis Swaim of High Point captured the Bud Pole Award. After a mandatory re-draw of the top six qualifiers Randleman’s Ryan Wilson started on the pole with Corey Strickland Of Dunn on the outside. On the start Wilson lead the field for three laps until Sanford’s Brad Brinkley took over. Swaim went to the front on lap 17 and never looked back. He lead the field to victory lane. Brinkley’s throttle hung and sent him into the concrete wall, ending his hopes of another victory. Robert Johnson of Hamptonville, son of legendary Junior Johnson, made his first start, but would suffer from engine failure ending his race on lap 52. Forrest Reynolds of Charlotte had rear end problems on lap 32, ending his day. Swaim, Strickland, Mack Little of Kernersville, Ryan Rhodes of Sanford, Garrett Lancaster of South Lake, TX, Chuck Crump of Star, Wilson, Jimmy Wallace of Lexington, Dan Moore of Bear Creek and Tommy Lemons Jr of Troy rounded out the top ten finishers.

In the 100 Lap Late Model Super Truck event Wayne McHone of Lexington captured the pole and Nathan Bess of Lexington took home the win leading from flag to flag. Grant Davidson of Asheboro, Jimmy Wallace of Lexington, Clint King of Denton, Travis Mosley of Richburg, SC, Justin Hicks of Martson, Destry Gardner of Asheboro, Jeff Garrison of Clemmons, Gene Kepley of Lexington and McHone rounded out the top ten finishers. In the Sportsman event Tommy Neal of Walkertown took home the win. Dan Discepoli of Greensboro, Josh Lowder of Archdale, Michael Adams of Hamptonville and Kevin Neal of Walkertown rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Street Stock event Bobby Grimes of High Point took home the win. Clyde Johnson of Sanford, John Chatman III of Sophia, Chris Womack and Justin Smith of Sophia rounded out the top five finishers.

In the U-Car event Josh Hogan of Troy captured the win. Tracy Hogan of Troy, Zack Bralley of Asheboro, Richard Jones of Lexington and Steve Hair of Troy rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Mini Stock event AJ Sanders of Mocksville took home the win. John Davis Of Lexington, Allen Hornaday of Bennett, Robert Moreau of Winston Salem and Archie Sanders of Mocksville rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Custom Steel Fabricators Super Mini Trucks Scottie York of Asheboro took home the win. Glenn Chriscoe Jr of Randleman, Wesley Farmer of Randleman, Jason Poole of Randleman and Ray Chriscoe of Randleman rounded out the top five finishers. In the Pure Stock event Dave Hammond of Sophia took home the win. Coming up Saturday Night will be the final Nascar Whelen Southern Modified Tour. The open wheeled will take to the track for 150 laps of action. Also on hand will be the Sportsman, Mini Stock, Legends, Street Stocks and U-Cars. Grandstands open at 6pm and the racing action gets underway at 8pm.
