South Boston Speedway News
Region’s top Late Model drivers will compete this weekend at South Boston Speedway
Oct 15, 2009 - updated Oct 15th, 2009 12:51pm
Web posted by Tim Chandler

South Boston, VA. --

The list of Late Model Stock Car competitors already signed up for Saturday’s 250-lap event that will be the co-featured attraction of the Mason Dixon 500 at South Boston Speedway reads like a “Who’s Who” list of the region’s top performers.

Among the approximately 50 Late Model Stock Car drivers already registered for the 250-lap event include NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion Philip Morris.

Other notables names on the list of competitors include 2009 South Boston Speedway champion Justin Johnson and former two-time South Boston Speedway Limited Sportsman Division champion Bruce Anderson.

The entry list also includes David Triplett Jr., Deac McCaskill, Jonathan Cash, Brandon Dean, Brandon Butler, Wayne Ramsey, Woody Howard, Nick Smith and David Quackenbush.

A complete list of drivers registered to compete in the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race can be found at www.southbostonspeedway.com.

The two-day Mason Dixon 500 event will also include a 250-lap race for the touring PASS Super Late Models. The event will be the longest and richest race of the 2009 season and the PASS national champion will be crowned at the end of the race. The purse for the 250-lap PASS race is over $44,000.

Ben Rowe enters the Mason Dixon 500 with a 57-point lead over second-place Mark Gibson in the chase for the PASS national championship. Ryan Blaney, the son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor Dave Blaney, is third in the standings and is 71 points out of the lead.

Practice for the two events will be held on Friday, October 16, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, and will be followed by qualifying time trials for both races, which will get cranked up at 4 p.m. Heat races for the NASCAR Late Models will get the green flag following shortly behind qualifying.

Grandstand gates will open on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. A NASCAR Late Model last chance 50-lap race will get the green flag at noon and will be followed by a Fan Appreciation Session on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval. The first race of the day on Saturday, Oct. 17 will get the green flag at 3:00 p.m. While speedway officials fully intend to run both 250-lap races Saturday, they have said that the rain date for the event will be on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Advance tickets are on sale for the two feature races on Saturday, Oct. 17, and are priced at $15 each. The ticket price will increase to $20 on race day. Youth, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $10 when accompanied by a paying adult and children, ages six and under, are admitted free with a paid adult. Tickets can be ordered via telephone by contacting the track office at (434) 572-4947 or they can be purchased at the speedway office.

Two weeks after the Mason-Dixon 500 at South Boston Speedway, the USARacing Pro Cup Series, formerly known as the Hooters Pro Cup Series, championship will be waged on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval on Oct. 31. The 250-lap race will help decide the 2009 USARacing Pro Cup Series champion.

Also scheduled for action on Oct. 31 will be an event for the Limited Sportsman Division. Many of the area’s top Limited Sportsman Division teams are expected to be on hand for that event.

For more information, visit the track’s Web site at www.southbostonspeedway.com or phone the track at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
