OCS Points Still Undecided
Oct 12, 2009 - updated Oct 12th, 2009 11:44pm
Web posted by

Rougemont, NC. --

DATE: October 12, 2009

PRESS RELEASE:

Despite the weatherman, rain did not dampen the racing at Orange County Speedway Saturday night as the championship points races in all divisions become tighter heading into the Carolina Collector Auto Fest 230 Championship Race on October 24.

David Triplett Jr. of nearby Timberlake, won the 100 lap feature, besting Oxford’s Terry Dease, and Kenny Forbes Jr. of Bullock, NC. Stacy Puryear, who held the points lead coming into this race, and Rusty Skewes rounded out the top 5 finishers.

With Triplett Jr. setting fast time and winning the race Saturday night, the points going into the last points race at OCS will be tied. Triplett and Puryear will enter the October 24 race with 512 points each. Craig Moore is only 40 points back in third place.

In Limited Sportsman action Saturday night, Joey Throckmorton emerged victorious in the 50 lap event, followed by Donald Brace, and 13 year old, Michael McQuire. McQuire, the current points leader in the division has a 10 point margin over Throckmorton going into the last points race of the season. Third place in points is Jerry Hinesley, who is 84 points back of the leader and out of championship contention. Michael Hatley, who started on the outside pole Saturday brought the crowd to it’s feet with a hard crash in Turn 3 on lap 40. Hatley, with fire erupting from the engine compartment, rapidly emerged from his mangled ride and the fire was quickly extinguished by the OSCAR Safety Team.

The Grand Stock Race saw Tommy Chandler emerge the winner over Eddie Capps and Bruce Crews. Crews, who normally runs at South Boston, had a good run, making his first start at OCS in over 13 years. Early leader Hunter Synan was sidelined by a crash. Chandler holds a 20 point lead over James Turner going into the last race.

In the Pure Stock 4-cylinder division, Bill Edwards first passed points leader Keith Langston then Jarrett Milam late in the race to take his first win of the season at OCS. The points battle in Pure Stock is also undecided as Keith Langston holds a 34 point advantage over Bruce Chisholm. Tony Ivey is in third place 52 points back.

The next race at Orange County Speedway will be the Carolina Collector Auto Fest 230 on October 24th, featuring a 100 lap race for the Late Model Stock Division, 50 laps for Limited, 35 laps for Grand Stocks, Pure Stocks will run for 20 laps, Mini-Stock for 20 laps, and the South Ground Pounders features vintage race cars will vie for 25 laps. Gates open at 5pm and qualifying begins at 5:15pm. Admission price is $10 adults, students, $8, and kids 10 and under are free
