Ten-time race winner C.E. Falk holds a 20-point lead over defending champ Danny Edwards Jr., 836-816, as the Late Models head into Saturday night's finale. With the tiebreaker in his command (a 10-3 edge in wins), Falk can secure the title by finishing 11th or better.
That Falk will win the championship may seem to be a foregone conclusion. In 18 races at Langley this season, he has posted 10 victories, 16 finishes in the top five and only one finish outside the top 10.
If Edwards needs a reason to be hopeful, though, he need look no further than his own situation a year ago.
Going into the final points race of '08, Edwards held a comfortable margin over his brother, Greg, and only needed to cruise to a 14th-place finish or better to win the championship. Instead, he got caught up in a multi-car fracas on the opening lap and crunched the nose of his car against the backstretch wall.
The Edwards crew made repairs and sent Danny back into the fray. With a battered machine, however, he could only log laps and hope enough drivers would fall by the wayside to move him up in the running order. At the end, Greg Edwards was the race winner, while Danny wound up 13th, two laps off the pace, and took the title by just two points.
With all of that in mind, you can bet Falk's team will be packing a full complement of spare parts when they arrive on Saturday.
Still, though, anything can happen... and often does.

In the other division battles:
. Shawn Balluzzo holds a 28-point lead over Chris Johnson, 532-504, in the Modified standings. Johnson owns the tiebreaker edge, five wins to four, so Balluzzo will have to win the title outright. He can do that by finishing 14th or better on Saturday.
. In the Grand Stock division, Ricky Derrick took advantage of a couple subpar outings by Jammie Goode to seize the points lead and shows no sign of relinquishing it. Heading into this weekend, Derrick is up by 22 - 576-554. Goode has the upper hand in the tiebreaker, seven wins to three. Derrick will take the crown by finishing 11th or better.
. Tommy Nixon holds a 24-point lead over Robbie Davis, 526-502, as the Super Trucks prepare for their season finale. Nixon has four wins to his credit, while Davis is riding a five-race winning streak. Nixon will unseat Davis, the defending champ, with a 12th-place finish on Saturday.
. Randy Prillaman can wrap up the UCAR title with a ninth-place outing this weekend. With one race to go, he leads Chris Hildebrand by 16 points, 642-626. Prillaman holds the tiebreaker edge with three wins to Hildebrand's one. If either Prillaman or Hildebrand falter badly, third-place Adam Florian, an eight-time winner, could move up. Florian is 46 points behind Prillaman and 30 behind Hildebrand.

Jake Crum of Statesville, N.C., came out on top of last Sunday's Bailey's 300 Late Model Stock Car race at Martinsville Speedway. The top three finishers were all 18 years-old.
Langley Speedway regulars Woody Howard and C.E. Falk were seventh and 12th, respectively. Among other drivers of local interest, Smithfield, Va.'s Cliff Daniels was sixth, while Hampton's Nick Smith was 10th. Clay Rogers, who won the USARacing Pro Cup event at Langley in May, was 14th.
