NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway
Update: Action resumes this Saturday; Falk 7th in final national rankings Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009
After taking a breather last weekend, Langley Speedway competitors return to action this Saturday, Sept. 19, as the track's 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign heads into its homestretch with McDonald's Night.
Saturday's feature lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars (100 laps); the Rolling Thunder Modified tour (75 laps); Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Streets (50 laps); Med Express Urgent Care Super Trucks (25 laps); Casey Cycle City INEX Legends (25 laps); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); and, Standard Welding Pro 6s (30 laps).
Front gates open at 1 p.m. with afternoon practice rounds running from 2 'til 4. A drivers meeting is scheduled for 4:15, followed by time trials at 4:30. Pre-race activities begin at 6:55 and the Pro Sixers lead off the evening's feature program, shortly after 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. "Family Packs," which include two adult and two children's tickets, are $25 - a savings of $5.

The Speedway will hold its regular, weekly "test and tune" session on Thursday, Sept. 17. Gates open at 5 p.m. and practice begins at 6. Pit admission is $10. There is no charge to watch from the grandstands.

Originally slated to wrap up a couple weeks ago, the popular "Wacky Wednesdays" series has been extended to Sept. 23, including an event this evening. The program features drivers wheeling street-legal machines in One-on-One Drags (one-lap match races), "Time Attacks" (solo runs against the clock) and a Burnout Competition.
Gates open at 6 p.m. A drivers meeting is scheduled for 7 and the fun gets going at 7:15. Tickets are just $5 and "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $15.

Late Model points leader C.E. Falk finished seventh in the final NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national Top 500. The information was released by NASCAR's PR office late Wednesday afternoon.
In the final rundown, Falk was sandwiched between a pair of Canadian drivers, sixth-place Steve Robblee and eighth-place Ron Sheridan, who both compete at Delaware Speedway in Delaware, Ontario.
Philip Morris of Ruckersville, Va., who clinched his seventh track title at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., last weekend, is the 2009 national champ. He has won three of the last four national titles (2006, 2008, 2009).
Late Midwestern short-track ace Larry Phillips is the only other driver to have more than one national championship to his credit. Phillips claimed five crowns between 1989 and 1996.
The complete national Top 500 and state/provincial rankings are due to be released tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 17.

NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 26, when the track hosts Fire/EMS Night. The feature slate includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars, B&C Seafood Modifieds, Old Point National Bank Grand Stocks, Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Streets, Casey Cycle City INEX Legends, Standard Welding Pro 6s and Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts.
