‘Quack Attack Warning’ issued to Late Model drivers at South Boston Speedway
Aug 19, 2009 - updated Aug 19th, 2009 1:04pm
Web posted by

South Boston, VA. --

With only two point races remaining in the 2009 season at South Boston Speedway, a “Quack Attack Warning” has been issued to drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Car Division.

David Quackenbush, arguably the most improved driver at America’s Hometown Track this season, posted his first victory of the season last weekend and that win, along with a third-place finish in twin 75-lap racing action, vaulted him atop the Late Model Stock Car Division standings for the first time this year.

Quackenbush owns a 12-point lead over five-time winner Nick Smith in the battle for the track championship. Justin Johnson is third in the title chase, just six points behind Smith and 21 ahead of Deac McCaskill.

The next racing action at South Boston Speedway will take place on Saturday, Aug. 29, when the Spaulding Equipment 150 Night will be staged at the four-tenths mile asphalt oval. The first race of the evening will get the green flag at 7 p.m. The final point races of the season will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5.

The featured attraction of the Spaulding Equipment 150 Night will be a 150-lap race for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Car Division. Quackenbush will enter that race with his championship fate in his own hands; however, his challengers in the title chase, along with many other talented drivers will be chomping at the bit to deny him a return trip to Victory Lane.

Also slated as part of the Spaulding Equipment 150 Night will be a race for the Limited Sportsman Division and twin races for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Brian Pembelton continues to sit comfortably atop the standings in the Limited Sportsman ranks. Danny Willis Jr., who motored to a victory last weekend, is now second in the standings, five points ahead of third-place Jeb Burton and seven ahead of fourth-place Tommy Peregoy.

Chris Crosby will head into the twin Budweiser Pure Stock Division events with an eight-point cushion over second-place Jack Milam. Jarrett Milam is third in the standings, 10 points behind Jack Milam.

Pit gates will open Aug. 29 at 12 p.m. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:15 p.m.

Admission is $10 for adults. Youth, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $5 when accompanied by a paying adult and children, ages six and under, are admitted free with a paid adult.

For more information, visit the track’s Web site at www.southbostonspeedway.com or phone the track at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
