Virginia Motor Speedway to Host Ernie Shelton’s 30th Annual USA 100™ and MACS Series this Saturday August 8th

The wait is finally over for one of Virginia Motor Speedway’s most anticipated events of 2009! The 30th Annual Topless USA 100™ presented by the US Army returns to the ½ mile speed plant in beautiful Jamaica, VA this Saturday August 8th and will once again be sanctioned by the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS).

The 30th edition of the USA 100™ will pay a cool $12,000 to-win and $1,000 to start the final 50 lap segment. After the success and popularity of last year’s event the roof s will once again come off and the USA 100 will again be “topless”.

Track prep and facility preparations have already begun in anticipation of a stellar field of competitors. Drivers from up and down the East Coast will be making their way to the speedway for one of the area’s top paying events of the year. Fans of all ages will be treated to multiple groove racing and a chance to see the drivers at work with the event going “topless”.

The purse for Ernie Shelton’s Topless USA 100 ® final 50 lap segment: 1. $12,000; 2. $6,000; 3. $3,000; 4. $2,500; 5. $2,000; 6. $1,750; 7. $1,500; 8. $1,250 9. $1,200; 10. $1,150 11.$1,100; 12. $1,075; 13. $1,050; 14. $1,025; 15. $1,020; 16. $1,015; 17. $1,010; 18.$1,005; 19- 26 $1,000. All drivers who do not transfer to the A Main from the twin-25’s will receive $200.00.

Ernie Shelton’s Topless USA 100® format will again feature the AlturnaMATS® Time Trails presented by JNJ Motorsports Media, from which a pair of 25-lap qualifiers will be developed. The first is the Sunoco Race Fuels Odd 25-lap Qualifier presented by Bazell Oil; while the second is the Keizer Aluminum Wheels Even 25-lap Qualifier presented by Big Shot Performance. From each of those events the top 12 drivers will advance straight up into the feature program.

Previous USA 100TM winners include: Chris Madden (08); Jason Covert (07); Jeremy Miller (06); Steve Lucas (’05, ’99, ‘95); Rod Evans (’04); 2003 — no race; 2002 — no race; 2001 — no race; Chuck Harper (’00); Denny Chamberlain (’98); Mike Balzano (’97 and ‘87); Henry Hornsby Jr. (‘96); Donnie Moran (’94); Scott Bloomquist (’93-‘92); Billy Moyer (’91); Harold Redman Sr. (’90); Rod Evans and Harold Redman Sr. (Twin 50’s) (’89); Timmy Newman (only 88 laps) (’88); 1986 — no race; 1985 — no race; 1984 — no race; Larry Moore (’83 and ‘80); Delmas Conley (’82 and ‘79); Dickie Bartusiak (’81); Larry Cantley (’78); Gene McNeely (’77).

The speedway will once again provided fans with a top-flight show for very favorable ticket prices. Adults are $25.00 while Seniors (60+) and Military are $20.00. Students 13-17 $10.00, Children 7-12 $5.00, and children Under 6 FREE. Pit passes will be $30.00.

The competitor gates open at 3:00 p.m. while the spectator gates swing open at 4:00 p.m. On Track Action begins at 6:00 pm with hot laps.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in beautiful Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from the Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads areas.
