South Boston, VA. --
Brian Pembelton could inch closer to a track championship Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.
Pembelton currently sits atop the standings in the Limited Sportsman Division. He owns an impressive 66-point cushion over Rookie-of-the-Year contender Jeb Burton, the 16-year-old son of Ward Burton.
The Limited Sportsman Division drivers will be competing in twin races Saturday night as part of the Embarq Night 150 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race program. The first event of the evening will get underway at 7 p.m.
If Pembelton has success in both Limited Sportsman Division races Saturday night, he could put himself in good shape to lock up a track championship. Bad luck, however, could bring his contenders closer to the top.
Tommy Peregoy is third in the division standings and is just two points behind second-place Burton. Danny Willis Jr. is fourth in the title chase and is only nine points behind Peregoy.
Also highlighting Saturday night’s racing action will be a 150-lap event for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Car Division.
Deac McCaskill is the points leader in the Late Model Stock Car Division. His lead, however, is quite precarious. Justin Johnson is second in the title chase and is only three points behind McCaskill. David Quackenbush is third and trails Johnson by a mere five points.
Rounding out Saturday’s racing action will be an event for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.
Chris Crosby has opened a 13-point edge over Courtney Crosby in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings. Mickey Cassidy is third in the standings and is only two points behind Courtney Crosby.
Pit gates will open Saturday at 12 noon. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:15 p.m.
Admission is $10 for adults. Youth, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $5 when accompanied by a paying adult and children, ages six and under, are admitted free with a paid adult.
