Smith, McCaskill Split Late Model Wins At South Boston Speedway
Jul 19, 2009 - updated Jul 19th, 2009 12:55am
Web posted by

SouthBoston, VA. --

Hampton, Va., driver Nick Smith won his third race in a row and fourth of the season in the first of two 75-lap NASCAR Whelen Late Model Stock Car races, while Raleigh, N.C., driver Deac McCaskill took home a win from the rear of the field in the second race to cap a strong night of racing Saturday at South Boston Speedway.

Smith passed pole sitter Dane Rudolph of Wamberal, Australia on the opening lap and was never challenged in winning over Josh Oakley of Rougemont, N.C. Jon Denning of Springfield, N.J., finished third, while Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C., and David Quackenbush of Lorton, Va., finished fourth and fifth.

McCaskill, who dropped out of the first race after encountering engine problems, changed engines between races and took the second Late Model race, despite starting twice from the rear of the field, once at the start of the race and once following a caution.

McCaskill tore through the field and went door-to-door with Johnson the last several laps before nipping him at the finish line.

Pole sitter Josh Oakley finished third, followed by Doug Godsey of Richmond, Va., and Quackenbush.
Willis Wins First Limited Race Of Season

Cluster Springs driver Danny Willis Jr. won his first pole and his first race of the season with a green flag to checkers finish in the 50-lap Limited Sportsman feature.

Willis endured three cautions and a late-race challenge from Danville racer Justin Snow to capture the win.

Snow finished second, followed by Brandon Gdovic of Yorktown, Va., and points leader Brian Pembelton of Amelia, Va.
Chris Crosby Wins Pure Stock Race

Scottsburg driver Chris Crosby passed pole sitter Randy Hupp on lap 25 and went on to a win in the 30-lap Budweiser Pure Stock race.

Jack Milam of Ringgold, Va., finished second, followed by Hupp, Courtney Crosby of Scottsburg and Mickey Cassidy of Danville.
Darryl Lacks Wins Southern Vintage Modified Race

Darryl Lacks of Goode, Va., passed brother and pole sitter Donnie Lacks on lap 14 and led from there in winning the 25-lap Southern Vintage Modified event. Points leader Ricky Seay, of Bassett, Va., finished third and Daryl Gwynn of Reidsville, N.C., was fourth.

Bob Randall got a Limited win Saturday in that same race.
