Late Models top Saturday's Med Express Night slate Wednesday, July 15, 2009

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway
After falling to Woody Howard in the waning circuits of last week's Hampton Heat 200, points leader C.E. Falk gets a 100-lap rematch this Saturday, July 18, as Langley Speedway continues its 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign with Med Express Urgent Care Night.
In addition to the 100-lapper for the headlining Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars, Saturday's lineup includes: Old Point National Bank Grand Stocks (40 laps); B&C Seafood Modifieds (50 laps); Med Express Super Trucks (25 laps); and, Wolf Trucks (20 laps).
Front gates open at 1 p.m. Afternoon practice rounds start at 2 and wrap up at 4. Qualifying gets under way at 4:30, following the 4:15 drivers meeting. Pre-race activities begin at 6:55, while the evening's first feature race, the Wolf Truck 20-lapper, goes green shortly after 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. "Family Packs," which include two adult and two children's tickets, are $25 - a savings of $5.

The Speedway will hold its regular, weekly "test and tune" session on Thursday, July 16. Gates open at 5 p.m. and practice begins at 6. Pit admission is $10. There is no charge to watch from the grandstands.

The Speedway's "Wacky Wednesdays" series continues this evening. The popular mid-week program features One-on-One Drags (one lap match races), "Time Attacks" (solo runs against the clock) and a Burnout contest.
Gates open at 6 p.m. A drivers meeting is scheduled for 7 and the fun gets going at 7:15. Tickets are just $5 and "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $15.

After dipping to sixth place last week, C.E. Falk has regained the fifth spot in the latest NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national Top 500 rankings. Connecticut Modified ace Keith Rocco maintained the lead, followed by Virginian Philip Morris.
Other Langley regulars in the Top 500 include: Danny Edwards Jr. (116th); Woody Howard (157th); Greg Edwards (179th); Mark Wertz (207th); Wesley Falk (317th); Jeff Shiflett (346th); Shawn Balluzzo (405th); Dean Shiflett (460th); and, Terry Carroll (496th).
In the Virginia state standings, Morris continues to hold a commanding lead, while Falk overtook Nick Smith to move back into second place. Danny Edwards Jr. and Howard check in at 15th and 20th, respectively.

Highlights from the Hampton Virginia 250 USARacing Pro Cup Series event, held at Langley on May 23, are slated to air this Sunday on Fox Sports Net. Check your local listings.
The finish of that race, which featured a four-wide scramble off the final corner, will be a hard one to top, but the Pro Cuppers will give it their best shot when the series makes a return visit to Langley on Saturday, Aug. 22.

While the 27-car starting field for last Saturday's Hampton Heat 200 represented a season-high for the Late Model division, race winner Woody Howard still couldn't resist taking a good-natured poke at drivers who chose to bypass the event: "I'm surprised we didn't have any more cars. I think it's really just that the track is so tough that some of these people are a little bit scared, I think, to come out here."

NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, July 25, with Hampton Roads Toyota Dealers Night. The lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars, Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Streets, Casey Cycle City INEX Legends, EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs and Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts.
