Cohick leads flag to flag to take Victory Lap Late Model feature;
Jun 14, 2009 - updated Jun 14th, 2009 12:24pm
Web posted by

Jamaica, VA --

It took three tries to get the 35 lap Victory Lap Late Model feature under way and once it did it was all Tom Cohick of Gloucester, VA as he led flag to flag to take home his first victory of 2009 in his #00 D&M Cabinets, Gloucester RV Rocket.

Bowie and Cohick led the field to green with Bowie taking control. It would be short lived as Matt Morgan would bring out the first caution before a lap could be completed. The second restart saw a four wide battle head into turn 2 and bringing out a second caution with a spinning Scott Adams.

On the races third restart Cohick would take control form the outside and lead the first lap. Cohick would build a big lead with Bowie and Anthony Kincaid battling for second. Cohick began working lapped traffic to perfection extending his lead to about ten car lengths over Bowie.

On lap 21 Davis Lipscombe took over the fourth with an inside pass of Vaughan Haywood in turn 3. On lap 25, caution would fly for a pile up in turn 1 involving six cars. On the restart Cohick would pull away form the field only to have it closed back up with the races final caution on lap 28. Once under green Cohick would once again pull away to take the win followed by Ben Bowie, Anthony Kincaid, Brett Carlton and Lou Littlepage Jr.

“We made some big changes to the car after qualifying and it took me those two first restarts to figure out what we had. The car was just awesome tonight, I could take it anywhere on the track, it feels great to get the win tonight,” commented Cohick in victory lane.

In other action Tony Wood of New Kent, VA took over the lead and the win in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature when the two leaders of Roger Jamerson and Kenny Moreland got together in turn 2 on the final lap. In the New Generation Racing Sprint Car feature Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC drove from his eighth place starting spot to take the lead on lap 19 and then go on to take the win. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature James Marshall of St. Leonard, MD took the lead on lap 6 from Brian Dobie of Prtlow, VA and then went on to record his second win of 2009. And in the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA took the lead from Marty Coltrain of Richmond, VA on lap 6 and then cruised to his first win of 2009.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Michael Hayes and Stephen Childress led the field to green with Childress taking control from the outside. Caution would come out quickly as Childress spun in front of the field collecting several top cars in the process. With no laps on the board Childress would climb out of his car and relinquish it to Tim Shelton.

On the restart it was Todd Traylor and Roger Jamerson leading the field to green with Jamerson taking control form the outside and leading the first lap. Caution would once again come out this time on lap 1 for Tommy Upshaw losing a tire in turn 3.

When the field got back under green Jamerson would pull to a five car length advantage with Kenny Moreland taking over second. On lap 7 J.R. Guy and Davey Pullen went door to door for sixth with guy taking the spot.

On lap 9 Moreland closed up to the bumper of Jamerson with Traylor riding Moreland bumper. On lap 15 Moreland got under Jamerson in turn 2 and then again in turn 4 but couldn't make the pass. Moreland kept working Jamerson for the lead but with little success. With five to go Jamerson, Moreland, Traylor and Wood were all nose to tail working lapped traffic.

Coming to the white flag Moreland go under Jamerson with the two touching heading into turn 1. In turn 2 the got together again with Moreland climbing the side of Jamerson's car sending the two spinning and allowing Wood to get around and take the checkers. Following wood to the checkers were Todd Traylor, J.R. Guy, John Kirby and Roger Jamerson.

In the New Generation Racing Sprint Car 25 lap feature Ryan Price and Troy Severin both of Ashland, VA led the field to green with Price leading the first lap and walking out to a ten car length lead. Price looked untouchable until lap 11 when he came upon Scott Davis the last car on the lead lap. Price was unable to make the pass and on lap 19 Daren Bolac took the lead as the two raced down the backstretch.

On the next circuit the races only caution would come out for Price as he hit the wall had in turn 2. On the restart Bolac was able to pull away and take home the victory followed by Mary Anne Williams, Troy Severin, Michael Tolley and Kyle Pruitt.

In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Brandon Galloway and Brian Dobie led the field to green with Dobie taking control from the outside to lead the first lap followed by James Marshall. On lap 5 Marshall got to the inside of Dobie as they entered turn 1, the two raced side by side until Marshall seized control out of turn 3.

On lap 11 the races second caution came out for a spinning John Ferguson in turn 4. On the restart Marshall got a great restart and left Dobie to deal with Galloway and Josh Harris as Harris would take third from Galloway. On lap 13 Dobie would lose a driveshaft in turn 3 bringing out the races third caution.

On the restart point leader Dan Arnold would get under Galloway to take over the third spot. On lap 20 caution would fly again as Jack Foulkes, Wayne Taylor and Dustin Bishop got together in turn 4. On the restart Marshall would pull away from Harris and Arnold to take the win with Dan Arnold, Josh Harris, Brian Maxey and Page Harrison rounding out the top five.

It took two tries to get the Limited Stock Car 25 lap feature going and once they got racing Marty Coltrain took the lead with Raymond Harper and Sam Archer battling side by side for second. Caution came out on lap 3 for Lee Overstreet who lost a right rear tire in turn 4.

On the restart Brett Adkins took second from Sam Archer in turn 2 and then went after Coltrain for the lead. As the two raced down the backstretch Adkins would take the lead. On lap 7 Harper would dive under Coltrain in turn 2 to take over second with Archer following to third. On lap 10 Wesley Givens took fifth from Kevin Fletcher with the caution coming out for spinning Travis Hopkins on the next circuit.

On the restart Adkins pulled away from the field as Gary Wheaton took fifth from Givens. Nothing could slow Adkins as he cruised to an almost three second lead in route to his first win of 2009. Following Adkins to the checkers were Raymond Harper, Sam Archer, Wesley Givens and Gary Wheaton. Adkins become the third different winner in as many races in the Limited Stock Car division.
