NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway

The Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars return to action this Saturday, June 6, as Langley Speedway continues its 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign with Cavalier Surf Shop Night.

Saturday's five-race slate includes: Late Models (100 laps); Old Point National Bank Grand Stocks (40 laps); Med Express Urgent Care Super Trucks (25 laps); Standard Welding Pro 6s (30 laps); and, Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps).

Gates open at 1 p.m. Afternoon practice rounds begin at 2 and wrap up at 4. A drivers meeting is scheduled for 4:15, followed by time trials at 4:30. Pre-race festivities get under way at 6:55 and the Champ Karts kick off the evening's feature program, shortly after 7.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. "Family Packs," which include two adult and two children's tickets, are $25 - a savings of $5.

The Speedway will hold its regular, weekly "test and tune" session on Thursday, June 4. Gates open at 5 p.m. and practice begins at 6. Pit admission is $10. There is no charge to watch from the grandstands.

Langley Speedway's 2009 "Wacky Wednesday" season got off to a flying start last week and continues this evening. The program includes One-on-One Drags (for one lap around the track), "Time Attacks" (solo runs against the clock) and the ever-popular Burnout Competition.

Gates open at 6 p.m. A drivers meeting is scheduled for 7 and the fun gets going at 7:15. Tickets are just $5 and "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $15.

Late Model points leader C.E. Falk is seventh in this week's NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national Top 500. In nine starts, he has posted three wins (all at Langley) and nine top-five finishes. Two-time defending NWAAS champ Philip Morris of Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., leads the national rundown with seven wins in 11 races.

Other Langley regulars in the Top 500 include: Danny Edwards Jr. (102nd), Woody Howard (217th), Mark Wertz (235th), Wesley Falk (247th), Greg Edwards (248th), Jeff Shiflett (281st), Shawn Balluzzo (353rd), John Staton (363rd), Dean Shiflett (425th), Terry Carroll (481st) and rookie contender Kyle Waltz (482nd).

In the Virginia state standings, Falk ranks second to Morris. Danny Edwards Jr. is the only other Langley driver in the top 20, checking in at 15th.

Father's Day is quickly approaching (on June 21) and entries are now being accepted for Langley's "#1 Dad" contest - the Speedway's annual salute to deal ol' Dad.

Just compose a brief paragraph telling why your Pops is tops and e-mail it to <info@langley-speedway.com>. You can also fax your entry to (757) 865-0072. The deadline is Thursday, June 18 at 4 p.m.

The winner will receive free admission to the June 20 racing program, a handsome assortment of prizes and will be recognized during pre-race activities. Please be sure to include your name and phone number with your entry.

Make plans to be at the Speedway on July 2 for a special Thursday night program, highlighted by the annual Independence Day fireworks display.

The season's biggest Late Model race - the 2nd Annual Hampton Heat 200 - is slated for Saturday, July 11. If his comments following his win on May 23 are any indication, C.E. Falk has had that date circled on his calendar for awhile: "I can't wait for that Hampton Heat, that big 200-lapper. I want to win 'em all, but I want to win that one."

NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, June 13, when the track plays host to Monster Energy Night. The feature card for that evening includes: B&C Seafood Modifieds, Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Streets, Casey Cycle City INEX Legends, EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs and Larry King Legal Services Enduros.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
