South Boston Speedway News
NASCAR Camping World East Series drivers will invade South Boston Speedway Saturday
May 28, 2009 - updated May 28th, 2009 1:03pm
Web posted by Tim Chandler

South Boston, VA. --

The NASCAR Camping World East Series will invade South Boston Speedway this weekend for the fourth of 11 races on the 2009 schedule.

The Camping World Series 150 is slated to get the green flag at 7 p.m. Also featured as part of Saturday night’s race program will be a 150-lap race for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Car Division. The Late Model Stock Car event will be run at the conclusion of the NASCAR Camping World East Series event.

There are a host of drivers who will be considered contenders for a victory Saturday night in the Camping World Series 150.

Most eyes will likely be focused on 2008 NASCAR Camping World East Series champion Matt Kobyluck to be the favorite to win Saturday night. Kobyluck won the inaugural NASCAR Camping World East Series event at South Boston in 2007 and has 16 victories, 86 top -10 finishes and seven pole awards to his credit in 159 career NASCAR Camping World East Series starts. Kobyluck has posted wins at 11 different racetracks during his career.

Jody Lavender is the current points leader in the NASCAR Camping World East Series. He had a career-best finish of second at Greenville, S.C. earlier this year and in 15 career starts in the series, he has posted eight top-10 finishes,

Ty Dillon, the younger brother of Austin Dillon will attempt to make his NASCAR Camping World East debut Saturday night. Austin Dillon was the Rookie of the Year for the series in 2008.

Ty Dillon will be driving the #3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. Earlier this year, Ty Dillon competed in twin Late Model Stock Car events at South Boston Speedway on May 9, and recorded finishes of eighth and 12th. He placed sixth in a 150-lap Late Model shootout at America’s Hometown Track on May 23.

Max Gresham, who will be making his NASCAR Camping World East Series debut in the Joe Gibbs Racing #18 Toyota, is likely to contend for a win as well. Matt DiBenedetto and Kyle Busch have both piloted the ride to victories already this season DiBenedetto won at Tri-County Speedway and Busch placed first at Iowa Speedway.

Gresham is currently second in the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour standings and has recorded wins at Mobile (Ala.) International Raceway and Dillon (S.C.) Motor Speedway.

Prior to green-flag racing action Saturday, fans will have a chance to go trackside to visit with their favorite drivers, take some photographs and get autographs during a Fan Appreciation Session, slated from 5:45 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Up to 30 NASCAR Camping World East Series cars will take the green flag Saturday night. The top 26 positions for the event will be decided during qualifying.

Practice sessions for the NASCAR Camping World East Series and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Car Division will be held from noon until 2:45 p.m. Saturday. Grandstand gates will open at 3 p.m. and qualifying time trials for both divisions will follow. Late Models are set to qualify first at 3:45 p.m., while the NASCAR Camping World East Series drivers are set to qualify at 4:45 p.m.

Advance tickets are on sale for $15 each up until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 29. Adult general admission tickets at the gate will be $20. Tickets for youth ages 7-12 are priced at $10 each. Kids ages 6 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult. The rain date is set for Sunday, May 31.

For more information, visit the track’s Web site at www.southbostonspeedway.com or phone the track at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
