Morris, Cash Split SBS Twinbill

South Boston, VA.Defending NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Champion Philip Morris of Ruckersville, Va. and Jonathan Cash of Oxford, N.C. split the pair of 75-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division races that highlighted the Mom’s Night Out racing program here at South Boston Speedway.

Morris started on the pole and led all the way in winning the first of the night’s twin 75-lap Late Model Stock Car Division races.

In the nightcap, Morris started sixth and finished second behind Cash, who gave car owner Sandy Stigall of Roxboro, N.C. his first win at South Boston Speedway in almost 10 years.

The win in the first race gave Morris his third win of the season here at South Boston Speedway. With his victory in the nightcap, Cash became the fifth different winner in the Late Model Stock Car Division at South Boston Speedway this season.

Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C. finished second behind Morris in the first 75-lap race with Deac McCaskill of Raleigh, N.C., Josh Oakley of Rougemont, N.C. and David Quackenbush of Lorton, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.

Morris’ margin of victory over Johnson was .504 second.

The second 75-lap Late Model Stock Car Division race was one of the more exciting races of the season. Six caution flags were thrown and two drivers were penalized in the first 30 laps.

Five different drivers led the race with Michael Hardin, Morris and Cash staging a torrid battle for the lead for much of the race. Cash took the lead from Morris with 16 laps to go and sped away to a 1.655-second win over the defending national champion.

Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C. finished third, Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. finished fourth and Justin Johnson rounded out the top five finishers in the nightcap.

The six caution periods cut Cash’s average speed to 41.400 mph. The race took 43 minutes to complete.

Pembelton Takes Limited Sportsman Win

Brian Pembelton of Amelia, Va. started on the outside pole, took the lead at the outset and led all the way in winning the 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division race.

Pembelton held off Jeb Burton of Halifax, Va. by .372-second in a three-lap dash to the finish that followed the race’s final caution period.

Kenny Bowes of Danville, Va. finished third with Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va. and Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Tucker Wins Pure Stock Race

Justin Tucker of Elon, N.C. took the lead from Jack Milam of Ringgold, Va. on the 18th lap and led the rest of the way to win the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Tucker finished 2.379 seconds ahead of runner-up Courtney Crosby of Scottsburg, Va. Milam finished third with Randy Hupp of Halifax, Va. and Chris Crosby of Raleigh, N.C. rounding out the top five finishers.

There were three lead changes in the race Tucker leading the final 13 laps.

Hill Wins Allison Legacy Series Race

Timmy Hill of Port-Tobacco, Md. took the lead on the 28th lap and sped to victory in the 50-lap race for the touring Allison Legacy Series.

The win was Hill’s third victory in the season’s first four races for the series.

Michael Cooper of Pittsboror, N.C., who stands second in the series points standings behind Hill, finished second with Dylan Sawyer of Mooresville, N.C. finishing third.

Next Race At South Boston Speedway

The next race at South Boston Speedway will the Anderson Lawn Care Night on Saturday, May 23.

Five action-packed race are on tap with a 150-lap race for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division headlining the program.

The night’s action will also include twin races for the Limited Sportsman Division, a race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and for the Southern Vintage Modified Division.

Registration begins and pit gates will open at 12:45 p.m. Practice will run from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will start at 5:15 p.m. The first race will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Adult admission is $10 with youths ages 7-12 being admitted for $5 when accompanied by a paying adult. Kids ages six and under will be admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
