York Falls Victim To Mechanical Failure; Donley & Brinkley Spin; “Spudman” Little Takes Home The $5,000 Prize

Asheboro, NC. --

April 18, 2009

Caraway Speedway had another exciting night of NASCAR Late Model Stock racing with the running of the Budweiser 200. Sanford’s Corey Strickland put his Ford on the top of time trials winning the $100 Bud Pole Award, his first of the season. After a mandatory re-draw of the top six qualifiers Jason York of Reidsville and Jerame Donley of Winston Salem lead the 25 car field to the green flag.

York took to the lead and seemed to be unstoppable until lady luck decided to leave him stranded. Once again, he would fall victim to mechanical error as his ring & pinion gear on the rear end malfunctioned. “The car was perfect until I thought I had a flat but it turned out to be the rear end. If we can get through these mechanical problems we will be alright. We are just gonna have to get this monkey off our back.” Stated York. He posted his worse finish of the season at 15th and falling back to fourth in track points 10 points shy of leader Travis Swaim of High Point.

Donley would benefit from York’s bad luck but not for long. Sanford’s Brad Brinkley was right on his bumper but could not stay off of Donley. The two would tango sending Donley back into the turn one wall once again. Brinkley spun but managed to stay on the lead lap. He ended up finishing in the tenth spot and Donley finished on the wrecker in fourteenth position. Brinkley is holding strong to second in points standings a mere four points behind leader.

On the restart with ten laps to go Kernersville’s Mack Little, known by his fans as Spudman, lead the field to the checkered. “We blew a motor last week and we had used about the last of our funds. The $5,000 we won will help us to continue to race throughout the year. Hopefully, we will be able to win again and contend for the championship title.” Stated Little about his first win of the season.

Garrett Lancaster of South Lake, TX brought home second, his best finish of the season. BJ Mackey of Rock Hill, SC finally finished a race posting third. Chuck Crump of Star, Ty Dillon of Lewisville (Grandson of Richard Childress), Travis Swaim of High Point, Randy Benson of Rockingham, Ryan Rhodes of Sanford, Ryan Wilson of Randleman and Brinkley rounded out the top ten finishers.

In the 30 Lap Limited Late Model event Cory Donley of Winston Salem captured his first win of the season. Josh Lowder of Archdale, Jeremy Stoltz of Winston Salem, Ross Dalton of Winston Salem and Brent Weaver of Clemmons rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Mini Stock event Andrew Saunders of Mocksville took home the win. AJ Saunders of Mocksville, Paul Wark of Winston Salem, John Davis of Lexington and Michael Kitchin of Archdale rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Custom Steel Fabricators Super Mini Truck event Sammy Bullins of Asheboro captured the win. Jerry Chriscoe of Randleman, Bradley Gibby of Lexington, Wesley Farmer of Asheboro and Glenn Chriscoe Jr of Randleman rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Pure Stock event Tommy Raino of Lexington captured the win. Dave Hammond of Sophia, Bobby Mitchem of Trinity, Jamie Ruddock of High Point and Daniel Hughes of Asheboro rounded out the top five finishers.

Coming up Saturday Night will be Fun Night featuring Twin 35 Laps for the Late Model Super Trucks. Also on hand will be the Sportsman, Street Stocks, Legends, U-Cars and Pure Stocks. Grandstands will open at 6pm and the race gets underway at 8pm. For more information contact the speedway office at 336-629-5803 or the web at www.carawayspeedway.com.
