Chase Elliott to make his first ASA Late Model Series start at South Georgia Motorsports Park on March 28th
Mar 24, 2009 - updated Mar 24th, 2009 3:32pm
Web posted by Chase Elliott PR

Dawsonville, GA --

March 24, 2009

Born in 1995 into the Bill Elliott racing dynasty, Chase Elliott is already continuing the tradition of excellence in the sport where his father earned the legendary nicknames “Awesome Bill from Dawsonville” and “Million Dollar Bill.” At the age of thirteen, Chase already has seven championship titles to his name and is winning over a loyal fan base.

Chase started his racing career at age 8 at various dirt tracks across northern Georgia, and in 2006 he entered the Colorado Sprint Championship Series in the Mini Max and the 80cc Novice Shifter Kart divisions for his first full season of racing. He won the state title in the Mini Max division and finished an impressive third in the Shifter Kart field against much older competition. He competed in the CSCS again in 2007 and won six of ten starts, earning him another championship in the Mini Max and a runner-up in the Shifter Kart divisions.

In 2007, Chase joined the Legends Racing Series for his rookie season in the Bandolero Bandits division in Atlanta Motor Speedway’s (Hampton, Ga.) Thursday Thunder Series and earned Rookie of the Year honors. In the ten-week series, Chase finished in the top-ten eight times, the top-five three times, and won the final two feature events. The second-generation Elliott also competed in a handful of events in the Summer Shootout Series at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (Concord, N.C.). In five starts, Chase posted five top-tens and two top-fives.

Chase made the move from the Bandits to the Young Guns division for the 2007-08 winter season, which visited Atlanta Motor Speedway, Lanier National Speedway (Braselton, Ga.) and Watermelon Capital Speedway (Cordele, Ga.). Chase dominated the field, winning ten of twelve races and setting a new track record on AMS’ Thunder Ring. Chase won his first major championship when he captured the titles in both the AMS Winter Flurry Series and the Georgia Winter Series.

For the 2008 summer season, Chase moved up to the Legends Semi-Pro division and competed in both the AMS Thursday Thunder Series and the LMS Summer Shootout Series. Chase captured his first Semi-Pro victory in an exciting finish at Lanier National Speedway in September, winning by just inches at the checkered flag. He carried that momentum and went on to capture seven straight top-tens and two victories. One of those victories was at Lanier and earned Chase the 2008 Georgia State Championship for the Semi-Pro division. The following weekend, Chase made his first trip to the Legends Car Asphalt Nationals where he was the youngest driver in the Semi-Pro field. He practice, qualified and raced in the top-ten all weekend and came home with a solid sixth place finish in his first national event.

Chase returned to the 2008-09 combined Winter Flurry Series / Georgia Winter Series, this time in the Legends Semi-Pro division, looking to defend his dual championships. Elliott, who finished the season with six wins and three second-place finishes in 11 starts, led the points in both series until back-to-back on-track misfortunes dropped him in the season standings. The youngster battled back and won five consecutive races, including the season finale at Atlanta Motor Speedway, to clinch both the Winter Flurry Series and Georgia Winter Series championships, his first titles in the Legends Semi-Pro division.

This summer will mark a major milestone in the second-generation Elliott’s racing career, as he prepares to climb behind the wheel of a Pro Late Model to run in the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS). Chase, who has practiced on dirt but never circled an asphalt track in a Late Model, will test at Lanier National Speedway prior to the start of the 2009 GAS season. Former Late Model star Ricky Turner will serve as crew chief for Elliott’s rookie run this season.

Chase will continue to pilot the No. 9 Legends Semi-Pro car in the 2009 Summer Shootout Series at Lowe’s Motor Speedway and in select events in Georgia as his schedule permits.
