Miles Anticipating Ambitious 2009 Schedule, Beginning This Weekend In Florida
Mar 24, 2009 - updated Mar 24th, 2009 3:08pm

Pulaski, Tenn. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

After an up-and-down rookie season in the late model division, Tyler Miles and his No. 40 Miles Motorsports team are ready to begin their sophomore campaign in the popular stock-car class. And they’re not shying away from the best competition; in fact, the team is planning a full ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour schedule in ’09 which begins this weekend in Florida and Alabama.

The Miles team will travel Friday to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla., for the Pensacola 100 ASA SAT opener. Assuming the car makes it through Friday night without any extensive damage, the team will travel east Saturday to Mobile International Speedway in Alabama for the tour’s second event of the season.

“Well, I hope we can get through the first night so we can run the second,” the modest Tyler said over the weekend. “That’s the important thing right now – making laps, finishing races and rolling the car on the trailer at the end of the nights.”

The car Miles hopes to keep clean will be a new one in 2009, or at least new to the Miles team. After fielding a Port City chassis throughout ’08, the team purchased a 2007 Grand American Racecar toward the end of last season and will field the car on the ASA tour this year. Miles had a chance to drive the car in last season’s final race at the Music City (Tenn.) Motorplex, and says he feels the Grand American chassis will give the team a real opportunity at some top runs on one of the most competitive late model touring series in the country.

“The new car just responds a lot better,” Tyler explained. “It’s more consistent and when we make a change, the car responds and I can feel it. Augie Grill (of Grand American) has helped us out a lot with the setup, and his cars have become very good over the years. Augie will help us get into the ballpark, and then it’ll be up to us from there.”

As for his goals in 2009, Tyler has set them fairly high but wants to accomplish them at a realistic pace.

“First, we just want to get seat time and finish races. As the season goes along, I’d like more top 10s and eventually some top-five runs, as well. It’s important to learn every time we go on to the track, and that’s what we’re going to try to do. We’re looking forward to running the ASA (Southeast) series, and I think we’ll have a good shot to run very well with this Grand American chassis.”

Tyler Miles will begin his second season driving late model stock cars this weekend. A former pro 4 champion at Alabama’s Huntsville Speedway in 2007, the Miles team will attempt to follow the entire ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour in 2009 with occasional appearances at Nashville, Tennessee’s Music City Motorplex, where Miles competed a number of times in 2008.

Miles is a member of the Team Full Throttle NASCAR Driver Development Program and is represented by Driver Development Services, Inc., Charlotte, N.C. Marketing partners for the Pulaski, Tenn., native are Ethridge Auto Sales, Shawn Promotions, and Russell Signs.
