John Bolen to Enter Four Camping World East Events in 2009

Concord, NC. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:February 20, 2009

Jasper, Alabama, Driver Will Race Greenville, Tri-County, Iowa and South Boston

John Bolen has always had a dream of making it to the NASCAR level. 2009 will be an important year for the Jasper, Alabama, native who will test the waters in the NASCAR Camping World East Series. Bolen will enter four events, all on short tracks. If the early part of the season goes well, then the plan will be to run the balance of the schedule. He will pilot a number 22 Gateway Gaming, Chevy Monte Carlo.

“We’re really excited about it,” said Bolen. “It’s been a long time coming. We finally have the right people and the right mentality to make a good impression when we run our first race at the NASCAR level.”

Bolen has already won races on tracks like Birmingham International Speedway (AL). The historic track, which was torn down earlier this winter, is longer than most of the tracks that Bolen will tackle on his Camping World East Schedule. The transition to the new car really comes down to the driving style, according to Bolen.

“The Camping World East cars are much different than what we are used to,” said Bolen. “The Spec engines make 600 horsepower, and that’s less than a Super Late Model. I think the biggest transition is going to be the heavier car and learning how to be smoother with it.”

The transition will also be smoother with the right people working behind the scenes. David Ray will serve as crew chief once again, and former NASCAR Southeast Champion Jeff Fultz will be working with the team to provide the setups for all the events.

“It’s going to be tough to get adjusted to the new car,” said Bolen. “They banned testing, so we’ll have to test at non-event tracks. I think we’ll be shaking it down at tracks like Montgomery Motor Speedway (AL). It’s a challenge, but we are looking forward to it. David Ray will be our crew chief; he’s done great things with us in the past. We’ll have Jeff Fultz helping us with the setups. I think we are going to be competitive when we get rolling.”

Bolen will enter the races at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on April 11th, Tri-County Motor Speedway on April 25th, Iowa Speedway on May 17th and South Boston Speedway on May 30th. If they are in the running for the points’ championship or rookie of the year, then the schedule may be expanded after the South Boston race.

“We are going to start with a handful of races,” said Bolen. “If we have a lot of success, then we’ll keep on racing. We don’t want to get in over our heads and commit to run the full schedule. This gives us a chance to get our feet wet and go from there.”
