Jason Hogan Scores Runner up Finish to NASCAR Star and Friend Kyle Busch at Speedfest
Jan 28, 2009 - updated Jan 28th, 2009 5:50pm

Cleveland, GA --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:1/26/09

It took dodging multiple incidents of carnage in one race and doing all he could to keep up with the best in the business in another, but the 2009 season is underway for Jason Hogan. The Georgia driver, at his home track of Lanier National Speedway just minutes up the road from his family owned race team located in Cleveland, GA, made the most of the 2009 edition of Speedfest which came to his home track for the first time in the event’s five year history.

The first race for the double duty driver was the 100 lap Georgia Asphalt Series sanctioned pro late model event which was suppose to be the easier of the two events. However, it was far from that as sixteen cautions flew throughout the event including two multiple car incidents within the first two laps that ended the day for many and left Hogan threading the needle just to keep his car in one piece. That was really just the beginning compared to lap sixty-five when Jason, who was battling for fourth, gave a nudge to the #52 car of Kevin Stephens after multiple attempts to pass the slower car. Stephens then took entirely unreasonable action and retaliated in turn three by ramming the #92 in the rear and shoving him all the way to the turn four wall. The caution then came out and Hogan pitted for damage but it was the end of the day for the not so smart Stephens. In the end, it was Hogan who made his way back to the front and settled with a solid fourth place finish after starting deep in the pack.

“That pro late model race was awful. I don’t know if it was because it was the first race of the year or what, but everyone was racing as hard as they could from the minute the green flag waived. Even though fourth wasn’t really where I expected us to finish, it was just nice to be able to get out of there with my car in one piece,” stated Jason, while preparing to strap into his second ride of the day.

With 100 laps already under his belt, it was time to go super late model racing in the CRA sanctioned 200 event. With a ten minute break at the half way point for fresh rubber, fuel, and oh not to mention an inversion of a possible three to six drivers, this race had a whole different strategy behind it than the last. That strategy was easily noticed by the fans in attendance, “ride for the first 100 then race the last 100”, and that was pretty much the case with all the competitors in attendance as thirty three of the thirty four cars that started the race were still on the track at the half way break. Jason started to make his move for second position on lap ninety eight after riding in third for most of the first half but backed off and settled for a third place spot heading into the break. That proved to be the move of the race so far as the three car inversion put the hometown driver in the lead to start the second half.

After leading for five laps, friend and considered by many as the best stock car racer in the business, Kyle Busch took the lead and never looked back for the next ninety five laps winning Speedfest 2009 with Hogan crossing the line in a near second.

“Well it’s pretty simple to sum it up by saying we had a good car, Kyle’s was just better. His car would just sail through the turns nice and smooth while mine was a bit snug in the center which hurt us off. It’s always a lot of fun when you get to race against a guy like him (Kyle Busch) and measure yourself against a guy who runs like 100 races a year. I just know next year if he calls me like he did this year asking about this place, I’m going to tell him I think you’ve got it figured out,” joked Hogan after the race.
