Chub Frank Ready For Return To Winning Ways In 2009
Jan 28, 2009 - updated Jan 28th, 2009 5:47pm
Web posted by

Bear Lake, PA. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:January 26, 2009

Chub Frank is primed and ready for a return to his winning ways on the dirt Late Model circuit in 2009.

Coming off an uncharacteristically quiet 2008 season that saw him reach Victory Lane just once, Chub heads into the new campaign confident that a turnaround is in store for his self-owned racing team.

The 47-year-old superstar from Bear Lake, Pa., will kick off his busy 2009 schedule this week in the Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway in Waynesville, Ga., competing in four consecutive nights of O’Reilly Southern All-Stars Series events from Wednesday (Jan. 28) through Saturday (Jan. 31).

“There hasn’t been much off-season, but we’ve been working hard for the last couple of months and I feel like we have everything where it needs to be,” said Chub, who returns Brad Baum as his chief mechanic for the fourth consecutive season. “Now we just need some good luck and we should be O.K.”

Chub’s focus will once again center on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, the national tour that he’s followed since its launch in 2004 under the World Racing Group banner. He finished a career-high second in the series points standings and led the tour in victories (with six) in 2007, but a slip to fifth in the 2008 points chase (with only one win) left him unsatisfied.

“I think we were fast last year, especially late in the season when we found some things on the car that worked,” said Chub, who will also enter selected special events throughout the season to accent his WoO LMS action. “But we had some bad luck during the season, stuff that usually doesn’t happen – I mean, I flipped (at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway in April) and I drove a car into the wall after something hit my helmet (in September at Pennsylvania’s McKean County Raceway).

“Hopefully we got all our bad luck out of the way last year.”

Chub plans to debut a new Rocket No. 1* machine at Golden Isles – a car he just finished assembling over the weekend. He’ll have his usual stable of Rocket mounts and Custom Race Engines at his disposal. His cars will feature two different graphics schemes, both with more blue visible than his ’08 look.

The 2009 season will mark Chub’s first since 2004 without primary sponsorship from Lester Buildings, which was forced to end its run as Chub Frank Racing supporter due to economic circumstances. While the driver known as ‘Chubzilla’ is still searching for a major sponsor to replace Lester Buildings, he boasts a strong list of backers on the flanks of his Chevrolet Impala SS dirt Late Models, including Corry Rubber, Lake Shore Paving, Hino Toyota, All-Star Performance, Corry Laser, Slavic Corporation, Farr MotorSports, Custom Race Engines and GW Performance.

Chub will head to Florida after this week’s four-race meet at Golden Isles Speedway, but he’ll spend the first week of February working on his equipment and relaxing in the Sunshine State rather than competing in the Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Fla. He’ll return to action from Feb. 9-14 in the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., a half-mile oval that is set to host four nights of UMP DIRTcar Super Late Model competition (Feb. 9, 10, 11 and 13) and the season-opening WoO LMS programs on Feb. 12 and 14.
