South Boston Speedway Barkhouser Late Model Champion Wayne Ramsey, Others Feted At Annual South Boston Speedway Awards Ceremony

SouthBoston, Va. --

South Boston Speedway 2008 Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division champion Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. reaped the rewards of his championship season here Saturday night at the annual South Boston Speedway Awards Ceremony.
Ramsey, who won 6 of the track’s 15 points races in 2008, received prize money and awards during the annual event that, honors the track’s champions and other top competitors.

In addition to winning the South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division championship, Ramsey also received awards for having the most wins, the most pole position wins and for leading the most laps.
Also honored in the Late Model Stock Car Division were Justin Johnson of Durham, NC, Deac McCaskill of Raleigh, NC, Dude Gibbs of Seaford, VA, and Jonathan Bailey of Buffalo Junction, VA, who finished second through fifth respectively in the division points standings.

Also among the honorees was Lee Pulliam of Semora, NC who won the South Boston Speedway Limited Sportsman Division championship. In addition to his awards for winning the division title, Pulliam received the awards for the most wins, most pole position wins, most laps led, and most popular driver in the Limited Sportsman division.
Bruce Anderson of South Boston, VA and Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, VA received awards for finishing second and third in the division points standings.

Joe Allred, III of Scottsburg, VA, who won his first championship in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, was honored for that accomplishment. He also received the award for winning the most improved driver in the division.
Courtney Crosby of Halifax, VA and Justin Tucker of Elon, NC received awards for finishing second and third in the division points standings.

Also honored Saturday night was Darryl Lacks of Goode, VA who won the championship in the Yellow Book USA Southern Vintage Modified Division.

Most Improved Driver Awards were presented to Jonathan Bailey in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division and Tommy Peregoy in the Limited Sportsman Division. Winners of Most Popular Driver Awards were Deac McCaskill in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division and Jarrett Milam of Ringgold, VA in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. Sportsmanship Award winners were Dude Gibbs in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, Danny Willis of South Boston, VA in the Limited Sportsman Division and Melissa Daniel of South Boston, VA in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. Rookie of the Year honors were presented to Timmy Nice of Powhatan, VA, and Daniel Watkins, III of Angier, NC who tied in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, Joey Throckmorton of South Boston, VA in the Limited Sportsman Division and Mike Jones of South Boston, VA in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Steve James car owner of Clarksville, VA was presented the annual Goo Fallen Spirit Award named in honor of late Halifax County, Va. businessman and race team owner, Floyd “Goo” Fallen. Greg Davis, the crew chief for Limited Sportsman division competitor Bruce Anderson of South Boston, VA was presented the Craftsman Mechanic of the Year Award.

In addition to the competitors who compete in South Boston Speedway’s four NASCAR racing divisions, the top three winners of the five competitor groups of the Halifax County Motorsports Academy Karting Program were recognized. Group one included students Matthew Tuck, Gabby Medley, and Heather Davis. Group two were Parth Patel, Amanda Webb, and Tyler Shotwell. Nick Conner, J.E. Anderson, and Gannon Griffin were the winners in group three. Also, group four Shawn Conner, Corrie Conner, and Cory Tuck. Group five included winners Brandon Wilborn, James Lloyd, and Nick Grove all receiving plaques for their accomplishments.

Over $52,000 in cash and awards was presented during the awards ceremony held at The Prizery in downtown South Boston, VA.

South Boston Speedway will open its 2009 NASCAR racing season on Saturday afternoon, March 14 with races for all four of its regular track divisions.
