The Mattioli Cousins, Chase Mattioli and Nick Igdalsky, grandsons of Pocono Raceway's Dr. Joe & Rose Mattioli, adapted quickly to their Ford Mustang KONI car during three days of testing (January 3-5) on Daytona's Road Course in preparation for the January 25th Fresh from Florida 200, a prelude to the 24 Hours of Daytona.

By Monday, January 5th, both were turning consistent quick laps, with Chase's best a 2.04.09 and Nick's a 2.04.40 in their Pocono Raceway sponsored JBS Motorsports #47.

Chase and Nick are teammates of defending KONI Sports Car Challenge GS runner-up Bret Seafuse and James Gue.

Igdalsky, who has spent most of his career open-wheel racing, has never competing in a car as heavy as the Mustang. Igdalsky said he believes the two are ahead of where they need to be right now. "Everything is positive so far," Igdalsky said. "The car really seems to be hooked up. This team is 1st class all the way and Bret and James are incredible mentors. Right now, we're just trying to get acclimated to it. These cars are a lot heavier than what I am used to running, so we're getting used to the braking. We're a lot better than we thought we'd be. We're only a couple seconds off the leaders, which for our first time in the car at this track, is not too bad."

For Chase, a 19 year old freshman at Fordham University, this was his second Daytona experience, with the first being a test in his Bobby Hamilton, Jr. prepared ARCA car in December. During single car runs on Sunday, December 21st, Chase was 3rd quickest, posting a lap time of 49.997 seconds (180.011 mph), only about a tenth off the fast time set by Joey Logano (Logano will be driving the #20 Home Depot car in the Sprint Cup series for Joe Gibbs Racing). Overall for that weekend Chase was 12th quickest in single car runs out of 62 cars. In drafting runs, his best lap was a 49.650 seconds (181.269 mph).

"Testing our ARCA car in December was good experience on the high banks, but learning the KONI car and the infield road course section is a whole new ball game, but we are up for it," Mattioli commented.

Following the Fresh form Florida 200 on January 23rd, Chase will return to Daytona to attempt to qualify his again in for the Lucas Oil ARCA 200 on February 7th, a prelude to the 2009 Daytona 500.

Chase and Nick will compete as co-drivers in a total of 10 KONI events in 2009, while Chase is looking to compete in 13 or more ARCA RE/MAX and/or NASCAR Camping World East events.
