Mattioli Cousins to Campaign Pocono / KONI Mustang in 2009 Candidates for MESCO Rookie of the Year Award
Nov 19, 2008 - updated Nov 19th, 2008 3:07pm
Web posted by

Long Pond, PA. --

(November 19th, 2008)

With the momentum of a 3rd place finish in class and 6th overall, in the November 1st SCCA "Charge of the Headlight Brigade", a 13 hour endurance race at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), Mattioli cousins, Nick Igdalsky and Chase Mattioli of Long Pond, Pennsylvania, announced today their plans to co-drive a Pocono Raceway sponsored Mustang in the 2009 Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series. They will be driving for JBS Motorsports a family owned team from Montour Falls, NY. A one car team in 2008, JBS Motorsports announced today that they will be a two car team in 2009 with Nick Igdalsky and Chase Mattioli serving as co-drivers of the #47 JBS Motorsports / Pocono Raceway Mustang. In 2008 JBS finished 2nd in points with Bret Seafuse and James Gue. Seafuse and Gue will return with the #37 JBS Motorsports / Trumansburg ShurSave Mustang. The Mattioli cousins are the grandsons of Pocono Raceway's Doctor Joe & Rose Mattioli.

Preparations for the 2009 season will get underway with testing at Daytona International Speedway, January 2nd-4th. The first race of the 2009 season will be at Daytona on January 25th, the Florida Fresh 200. Chase and Nick will follow the KONI series to Homestead, FL; Millville, NJ; Laguna Seca, CA; Lime Rock, CT; Mid Ohio, OH; Barber Motorsports Park, AL; Trois Riviers, Canada and Miller Motorsports, UT, with the season finale a six-hour event at Virginia International Raceway in Danville, VA.

"When we ran as teammates at VIR, it felt like we had been doing this forever, Igdalsky commented. The chemistry between Chase and me is fantastic, almost like being twins," Igdalsky concluded.

Even though he is my "much older" cousin, Nick is a kid at heart and he loves to go fast. To have the opportunity to work with him as well as proven winning veterans drivers, that Bret Seafuse and James Gue are, is like a dream come true. I can't wait to get to Daytona" Mattioli concluded.

Chase Mattioli, a 19-year old freshman at Fordham University, competed in Pocono's 2008 ARCA events, leading four laps of the August event. His best ARCA RE/MAX finish in 2008 was a 12th at Salem, Indiana with a 14th place finish in the Nashville Camping World Series event.

Chase began his racing on a Quarter Midget track at the age of seven. He completed the Bertil Roos Beginners and Advance training courses, and in his very first road race, he scored a victory in the rain. In SCCA events he has won a pole position at New Hampshire and two-second place finishes.

Nick Igdalsky, 31, a graduate of Elon University, began racing in Formula 2000. Nick has competed in Roos Pro Racing and SCCA events. In his first SCCA race, he scored a convincing win, 22 seconds ahead of the field. In his initial SCCA National Formula Mazda race, he came from the rear of a 25-car field to finish in 2nd place. He has also competed in NASCAR's Weekly Series Pure Stock Division in South Boston, Virginia. In his rookie year he scored seven poles, three victories, and led the most laps in that division. In 2008, Nick scored 5 wins in just 8 races in the Bertil Roos Pro Series. In only 2 full seasons with the Bertil Roos Series, Nick has 8 wins in 19 starts, ranking him 7th on the career win list.

In addition participating in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Road Racing Series, the Mattioli cousins are exploring opportunities to compete in the full-bodied stock car events in the ARCA-RE/MAX and /or NASCAR Camping World Series in 2009, with announcements of these plans expected in the next few weeks.
