UARA-STARS Race 15 Brings the 13th Different Winner Darrell Wallace, Jr. Victor in The Marlowe Racing Chassis 150
Oct 20, 2008 - updated Oct 20th, 2008 3:17pm
Web posted by

Hendersonville, NC. --

For Immediate Release: October 20, 2008

Caraway Speedway was the place on a cool Saturday that Melling Select Rookie point leader Darrell Wallace, Jr. claimed his first UARA victory in the Marlowe Racing Chassis 150. It was not a given for Wallace, he worked hard to get it.

Matt DiBenedetto set the pace with a Sunoco Pole time of 17.054 with Alex Yontz on the KLB Race Cars and Parts outside pole at 17.149. Scott Weaver making his first UARA visit spun coming out of turn two on the green flag lap but all others managed to avoid him. It was Yontz that took the point leading the first lap.

Garrett Campbell is the second car to find himself spinning in turn four but once again everyone will continue on. Yontz will hold the lead for the first 19 laps then DiBenedetto puts the move on him and takes over 1st place on lap 20. DiBenedetto will continue this lead for the next 113 laps.

The field goes green and Wallace passes for third on lap 21. The field will remain green until lap 45 when there is a multi car spin in turn two involving Richard Boswell, II; Garrett Campbell, Thomas Hartensveld and Kyle Grissom. Hartensveld and Grissom will head to the pits for the quick attention of their crews.

The field is back to green on lap 50 with DiBenedetto setting the pace and a freight train in pursuit. Action is all through the field as the leading point contenders are in a race of their own vowing for those coveted points. Yontz, Jamey Caudill, Boswell and Jake Crum (the top four point leaders) are all running right together just hoping for a slipup by their fellow man. They will remain very close to one another all night long.

B.J. Mackey making his debut as car owner puts the pressure on Paddy Rodenbeck who is also showcasing a new car and Rodenbeck spins bringing out caution 4 on lap 60. This will not be the end of Rodenbeck’s bad luck. Rodenbeck finds himself spinning once again along with Bob Saville down the backstretch out of turn two on lap 78. Rodenbeck with new crew and car did however show that he would be a force to reckon with in the future.

DiBenedetto continues to show his muscle but Wallace is in hot pursuit as he makes the pass on

Mackey for second on lap 91. At lap 100 it is DiBenedetto, Wallace, Yontz, Mackey, Travis Swaim, Caudill, Boswell, Crum, Yelton and Campbell running as the top ten. Swaim has been a hot contender all evening as well.

Wallace let’s DiBenedetto know he is out to lead this race. The final caution will fly as Bob Saville spins in turn four. With the pursuit going strong Wallace finally achieves his goal of passing DiBenedetto on lap 133 and never looks back. He will pull away from the field and bring home his first UARA RE Suspension victory in the Marlowe Racing Chassis 150. Wallace will also pad his lead over Brandon McReynolds in the Melling Select Rookie Championship. That will relieve some of the pressure from Wallace as McReynolds has been closing in on him for the rookie title. It is still up for grabs and either young man will make a great champ and that will be decided next week at Concord Motorsports Park.

Billy Banks will receive the Comp Cams Engine Builder of the Race award for the powerhouse he placed under the hood of Wallace’s machine.

Jamie Yelton who has been having some very strong runs lately had a slow qualifying run for him but managed to gain 13 positions during the event and was voted as the Holley Performer of the race.

The team that showed extra good sportsmanship was Ryan Robertson and his dad Mike. Robertson spun and hit the wall during qualifying. They had sent for their backup car for point’s runner Scott Turlington who had blown a motor earlier in the day. The Robertson’s would still let Turlington drive the car so he can continue with the point’s chase. The Robertson’s time and again show their good sportsmanship. Turlington would still fall short of a complete race and bring home the ARP (Aluminum Racing Products) hard luck award. One thing for sure the Turlington’s are very creative when it comes to re-lettering a car in a rush. They had their number nicely done on the Robertson car with duct tape.
