Latour An Impressive 6Th In First Trip To Caraway
Oct 14, 2008 - updated Oct 14th, 2008 2:28pm

Asheboro, N.C. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:Oct. 14, 2008

David Latour Jr. and his No. 89 late model stock-car team made their first trip to Caraway Speedway last weekend for the annual Mid-Atlantic Championship Late Model 250-lap feature at the .455-mile oval. Latour was impressive throughout the day, qualifying seventh and racing his way to a fine sixth-place finish in the 32-car field that featured many of the top late model racers in the South.

“It was our first time at Caraway,” Latour began, “and to race in the top 10 all day and come out with a sixth-place run was great for our team. We’ve got nothing to complain about; it was a good day of racing. The car was a little loose in and coming off but it looked like pretty much everyone was loose, especially coming off.”

Latour raced at Caraway on the same day that Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway held the 250-lap Fall Brawl event for late models. Latour, who finished fourth in Hickory’s late model point standings this season, explains his team’s decision to go to Caraway:

“We wanted to try something different. We knew a lot of the best drivers would be at Caraway and running with the big competition only makes you a better driver. Racing the big names is good for us because that’s who we’ll have to win against over the next couple years. I’m glad we could hold our own against them today. To run up front all day and finish sixth is a real good result for us.”

The remainder of the 2008 season is still undecided for the Advance, N.C., based Latour Motorsports team. David says the current plan is to race one more time at South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach Speedway for the track’s annual Myrtle Beach 400 weekend Nov. 20-22. Latour believes that will be his team’s final race of the season, but said plans are subject to change.

David Latour Jr. is a 17-year-old racer from Riverhead, N.Y. Now residing in Advance, N.C., Latour is in his second season racing late models full time in the South. A former quarter-midget champion and micro-sprint winner, Latour finished fourth in Hickory’s final 2008 late model point standings with five top-three finishes to his credit at the legendary NASCAR-sanctioned oval.

David is a member of the Team Full Throttle NASCAR Driver Development Program and is represented by Driver Development Services, Inc., Charlotte, N.C. Marketing partners for the Long Island native are Jeffrey Cornatzer Auto Body of Advance, N.C.; Hess Race Cars, Inc.; and Global Graphics.
