Jason Covert Clinches Third Consecutive Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Title!
Oct 14, 2008 - updated Oct 14th, 2008 2:16pm
Web posted by

York Haven, PA. --

For Immediate Release:October 14, 2008

Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and now Back-to-Back-to-BACK Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Champion Jason Covert have officially locked up their third straight MACS Championship with his second place finish at the Series' season ending 'Big Kahuna' at 'The Rock' Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, MD. Covert finished the 2008 MACS season without finishing outside of the top ten and posting an average finish of fourth throughout the season.

'This and the other championships aren't because of me, it's because of this team…I'm just the one lucky enough to be the one to get in the seat.' Jason said after clinching the title. 'Those guys work so hard at the shop plus work a job, I have to thank them, (BK Motorsports) for giving the opportunity to run their car.'

Weather played a major role in September allowing the team to only race twice within the month. Both events were productive for the team as Jason collected two second place finishes. The first came at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, PA September 6th and the second came in Hagerstown Speedway's Hub City 100 on September 13th. Covert was scheduled to race at Winchester Speedway on September 26 & 27 but Mother Nature forced the 'Winchester 200' to be postponed until October 24 & 25.

Covert and the BK Motorsports team then made their way to 'The Rock' Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, MD for the final MACS event of the 2008 season on October 3 and 4. The 'Big Kahuna' weekend started strong for Jason as he was sixth quickest in the AlturnaMATS® 'Shock the Clock' Time Trials and finishing third in his heat race. Covert drew the fifth starting spot for the 50 lap feature event and came home second behind race winner Josh Richards.

'Josh was just so much better than us tonight. Early in the race we were making better time through the center of the corners but when he moved up, he took off and I burnt my tires off trying to keep up with him.' Covert continued, 'That is a professional racer right there, Josh has become one of the best in the business.'

The following weekend Jason visited Challenger Raceway for 'The Ultimate' that paid $22,000 to the winner. The unique Thursday, Friday, Saturday format saw Covert win his heat during Thursday's $3,000 to win 'Mega-Blitz' and then finish third in the 41 lap main event from his seventh starting position. The rest of the weekend wasn't as pleasant for Covert as he finished third in his heat relegating him to a B-Main where he faded out of a transfer spot and failed to qualify for Unified Race Championship Tour sanctioned 'The Ultimate'.

The BK Motorsports team will take a weekend off and return to action on Friday, October 24 & 25 at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA for the 'Winchester 200' that will pay $10,000 to the winner. The team will also be at Hagerstown Speedway on October 25 & 26 for the 'Octoberfest 350'. Hagerstown and Winchester are working together to make sure all competitors will be able to attend both facilities for each of the two events.
