It’s been a dramatic season for Peyton Sellers and Andy Santerre Motorsports, so it was fitting that the season end in the same fashion – but this time with a win. The 150-lap season finale for NASCAR’s Camping World East Series ended with a wild three-car battle for the lead, with Sellers and the #44 Casella Waste Systems Chevrolet scoring the victory.

Sellers qualified in eighth position, and began patiently making his way towards the front. By mid-race, he was comfortably in third, and took over the lead on lap 46, holding the point for the next 40 laps. The lead was then exchanged between prior race leaders Christopher and Ickler. All eight lead changes of the race were between these same three drivers.

Ickler led the field on the final restart on lap 143, but spun and ended up in the infield. As Christopher approached the final turn for the white flag, Ickler’s car was slow on the inside and Christopher was forced to check up, causing contact from behind with Sellers. Sellers was able to recover quickly and take the checkered flag.

There was controversy in the winner’s circle regarding the yellow/checkered finish. After 15 minutes of discussion, Sunday’s win was upheld.

“Finally”, said Sellers. “We’ve had a great car all season and just been plagued with late race issues. I’m just glad we could finish with a win – the team deserves it.”

Sellers finishes now eighth overall among 78 drivers in the competitive 13 race series, with three Coors Light poles, one win, five top-5 and six top-10 finishes. The win this weekend secures his spot in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown to be held in Irwindale, California on January 23rd and 24th.

“We’re glad to get one”, said team owner Andy Santerre. “It was a real nail-biter again, but it’s been that way all season. Peyton did a heck of a job this season – our whole team did. My hat’s off to them. Thanks to our sponsor, Casella Waste Systems, for all their support again this season.” Casella is an integrated solid waste services company that provides collection, transfer, disposal, recycling and resource management services throughout the eastern United States.

The team was also sponsored for three races by Specialty Fertilizer Products, an innovative agricultural company who has developed a line of revolutionary products to improve a crop’s yield. The team also boasts a partnership with SkillsUSA, a national non-profit student organization that supports students entering the skilled trades.

“We’re thrilled to have an association with Peyton”, said Chris Powell, Associate Director, Development, for SkillsUSA. “He’s a young man with tremendous potential and genuine character, and we look forward to our relationship as he continues to move up in the sport in the years to come.”
