NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway

Update: UCARs, Super Streets set to headline Saturday's program Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008

Five of Langley Speedway's support divisions take center stage this Saturday, Oct. 11, when the track plays host to a night of championship stock car racing.

Saturday's lineup includes: Bass Pro Shops Super Streets (75 laps, presented by McDonald's); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (75 laps, Third Annual Virginia State UCAR Championship); Standard Welding Pro 6s (40 laps); Wolf Contractors Wolf Trucks (35 laps); and, Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps, Second Annual King/Queen of Champs).

Gates open and pre-race inspections get under way at 12 noon. Afternoon practice begins at 2 p.m. A drivers meeting is slated for 4:15, followed by time trials at 4:30. Heat races, if necessary, start at 6:15, while the Champ Karts lead off the evening's feature card at 7.

Tickets are just $5 for adults and children, 6-12. "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Robert Rusinyak is the defending winner of the Virginia State UCAR Championship. Other winners from last year's program included Timmy Waltrip (King of Champs), D.J. Watson (Pro 6) and Jeff Sampson (Wolf Trucks). The McDonald's 75 for the Super Streets is a new addition to this year's feature slate.

Saturday's UCAR and Super Street winners will each pocket $1,000 for their efforts. The Pro 6, Wolf Truck and Champ Kart events each pay $250 to win. Almost $7,400 in awards have been posted for the evening's feature races.

A full afternoon and evening of extreme motorsports excitement is on tap for Saturday, Oct. 18, when the Speedway plays host the the Third Annual "Night of Destruction," presented by Bud's Heating & Air Conditioning.

Twelve events make up the program, including past favorites like the Tug-of-War Competition, Burnout Competition, Bag Race, Appliance Race, Reverse Race, 50-lap Enduro Race, Import and Domestic Demolition Derbies and the return of the enigmatic Black Bandit. New events for '08 include the Pushmobile Race, Engine Explosion and the Piano Race.

Gates open at 10 a.m. and the fun gets started at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. "Little Race Fans" (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. "Family Packs," which include two adult and two children's tickets, are $25 - a savings of $5.

Langley Speedway will celebrate its 2008 campaign on Friday, Nov. 7, as the track holds its Annual Awards Banquet at the Hellenic Community Center on Traverse Road in Newport News, Va. The social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7:30, followed by awards presentations and other merriment. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased at the Speedway office.
