Despite Overheating Ransone Still Happy with Showing at Martinsville

Martinsville, NC. --

Lucas Ransone and the #00 KRG Chevrolet got off to a good start at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, VA for the premier Late Model Race in the country, the Bailey’s 300.

After two days of rain all the drivers and crews were ready to get on the track late Saturday afternoon for a shortened practice.

“Our car was running well,” said Ransone. “We were able to get a few sticker laps in and ended up being 13th over all. We were very pleased with our times and looking forward to qualifying.”

Qualifying began bright and early on Sunday morning. With the jet blowers on the track making sure it was dry despite the fog and humidity. Ransone was 23rd to qualify, late enough that the track was dry but still early enough that it was still cool. He spun a 20.542, which was good enough for 18th out of the almost 120 cars.

“It was great to see Lucas qualify so well,” said Team Owner, Larry Ransone. “We knew we had a good car, and Lucas is a great driver, so it was great to see him not only make the race, but to make it in on a qualifying time was huge for the whole team. Everyone on the crew did a great job getting the car ready. It was thanks to them that we were able to do as well as we did.”

It did not take long for Ransone to start picking off drivers and moving his way through the crowded field. The team worked to keep the breaks cool and save the car during the cautions.

By lap 76 Ransone was 14th when several cars piled up in turns three and four. No caution came out since all the drivers were able to hold on to their cars, but Ransone did sustain damage to the front and back of his car. By lap 80 it began overheating and he was also spun out coming out of turn two. The car went into the inside wall causing more damage.

Once the car and team were back in the pits they realized that the duct work had been completely closed off causing the car to overheat.

“We’re disappointed, we were pretty good, just an adjustment away from being perfect,” said Ransone. “Track position is key here. We will work hard on the car to make sure it is ready for our remaining races.”

Lucas Ransone Racing is currently sponsored by KRG. Their next race is on Sunday, October 12th at Caraway Speedway for the Mid Atlantic Championship 350.
