Sellers Claims Third Pole of the Season; Comes up Shy of Win at Loudon

Loudon, NH --

For Immediate Release

Peyton Sellers had the best starting position, the best car, the best pit strategy and was running the perfect race until a tire let go on lap 114 to end his chance at the victory in the Heluva Good 125 at New Hampshrie Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH.

Winning a series high third pole of the season, the ASM crew had the Casella Waste Systems #44 Chevrolet ready for the green flag on Saturday morning. The race had been postponed due to a rainstorm on Friday, and was the opening event on a weekend which would see the Craftsman Truck Series and the Whelen Modified Series race the same day, and the Sprint Cup race on Sunday. The Casella Waste Systems faithful were on hand for the day, looking for a good show; they were not disappointed.

Sellers ran up front early and inherited the lead when all the other lead lap cars pitted for fuel on lap 20. The Casella crew stuck to their pit strategy and called Sellers in at lap 25 for fuel. He restarted in the 26th position and by the end of the 53-lap green flag run, he was in the 6th position. Knowing he couldn’t win as he was, Sellers brought his Chevrolet to pit road for two tires and a chassis adjustment.

The 24-year old former National Champion is known not only for his experience, but also for his maturity and patience, Sellers restarted 11th but within laps was running down the leader. The crowd was on its feet. “We absolutely had the fastest car on the track today”, said Sellers. “I was gaining on him every lap and we were door to door there with about 10 laps to go”.

That’s when team owner Andy Santerre noticed it. The left front tire was going low. By the time Sellers entered turn 2, it was gone, sending the #44 Casella Waste Systems Chevrolet hard against the wall. Sellers had no way to easily get to pit row, and was forced to bring the car to a halt, bringing out a caution. The move was seen as “intentionally creating a caution”, and Sellers was penalized a lap. Sellers finished the race in 20th position, and now sits 10th overall among 73 drivers for the series with two races remaining.

“I guess it just wasn’t meant to be today”, said Sellers. “I’ve got to thank my team for giving me such a great car today. They did a tremendous job. I wish it hadn’t happened when it did – we might have been able to recover if it was a bit earlier in the race, but right there at the end it just didn’t leave us much room. The good news is we’re really hot right now, and we feel good going into Dover this weekend.”

Sellers has been a force to be reckoned with late in the season this year, with three top three finishes in the past five races and dominant performances now at both Adirondack and Loudon.

Specialty Fertilizer Products returns as the team’s primary sponsor for the Dover race, which will run in combination with the Nationwide Series and Sprint Cup Series races there the same weekend. The team is also has a partnership with SkillsUSA, a national non-profit student organization that supports students entering the skilled trades.

The Dover race will be broadcast live on HDNet and tape delayed on SPEED Channel’s Racing Across America segment. Check your local listings for full details.
