Virginia Motor Speedway News
Walker Arthur takes Victory Lap Late Model win dominating fashion; Bolac, Wood, Marshall and Adkins also get victories
Sep 14, 2008 - updated Sep 14th, 2008 2:12pm
Web posted by Dave Seay

Jamaica, VA. --

Walker Arthur of Forest, VA captured Saturday night’s 35 lap Victory Lap Late Model feature at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, leading all 35 laps in his #87 Cecil B Arthur Beef Farm / PMZ Group / Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rocket. With the victory Arthur closed to within three points of current point leader Stevie Long.

Matt Morgan and Arthur led the field to green with the races first caution coming out early as Brett Carlton flipped his ride in turn 4. Carlton would emerge from his ride unhurt. On the restart Arthur once again took control this time pulling away from Tom Cohick and the rest of the field.

By lap 10 Arthur had worked to a full straight and by lap 15 was working heavy traffic. The races fourth and final caution would come out on lap 23 for the spinning Cohick. That would close Roland Mann up on Arthur’s back bumper for the restart. Once the green flag fell for the final time Arthur pulled away with easy picking up his fifth victory of 2008.

Following Arthur to the checkers were Roland Mann, Stephen Evans, Stevie Long and Ben Bowie. Bowie was the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race with his fifth place finish.

In other action Tony Wood of Providence Forge, VA captured the 25 lap feature for his first victory of 2008. Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC continued his domination of the New Generation Racing Sprint Car division by capturing the 25 lap feature in his #44 Tidewater AAA / J&J for his sixth win of the season. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA took the lead from David Parker of Powhatan, VA on lap 10 and then held off challenges by Bret Hamilton and Eric Erwin to capture his sixth win of 2008. In the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA wrestled the lead from Kevin Fletcher of Saluda, VA on lap 16 to record his fourth win of 2008.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Tony Wood of Providence Forge, VA captured the 25 lap feature, taking the lead from Todd Traylor of King William, VA on lap 12 and then cruising to his first win of 2008.

Traylor took the lead from Taylor Doggett on lap 3 and then fought to keep wood at bay. On lap 11 Wood got inside Traylor to take over the top spot. With Traylor, Kenny Moreland and Roger Jamerson battling for the runner up spot Wood was able to cruise to the victory. Following Wood to the checkers were Kenny Moreland, Roger Jamerson, Todd Traylor and Gene Snow. Michael Hayes was the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race with his ninth place finish.

Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC continued his domination of the New Generation Racing Sprint Car division by capturing the 25 lap feature in his #44 Tidewater AAA / J&J for his sixth win of the season. Bolac took over the lead with an inside pass of Troy Severin on lap 8. As the two raced into turn 4 Severin pitched his car sideways flipping it in the process. Severin would come out unharmed.

Once the green Bolac quickly distanced himself from the field and cruised to the victory. Rounding out the top five were Tom Humphries, Kyle Pruitt, Brent Bordeaux and Mary Anne Williams. Bordeaux was the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race with his fourth place finish.

In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA battled with David Parker of Powhatan, VA in a tight side by side battle with Marshall taking over the top spot on lap 7. Parker retook the lead on the next circuit with a crossover move in turn 2 only to have it taken away again on lap 10 by Marshall.

Marshall and Parker raced into heavy traffic on lap 17 allowing Bret Hamilton and Eric Erwin to close in on the leaders. On lap 18 Marshall almost got caught up in a spin by Dustin Bishop in turn 4. On the restart Hamilton got by Parker for second and began to pressure Marshall for the lead.

On lap 21 Erwin got inside Hamilton for second allowing Marshall to pull away and go on to record his sixth victory of 2008. Following Marshall to the checkers were Eric Erwin, Bret Hamilton, Mark Schools and Page Harrison. John Ferguson was the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race with his sixth place finish.

The Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature got interesting early as Kevin Fletcher, Stephen Childress and Wayne Suite raced three wide out of turn four for the lead with Fletcher taking control by inches. Within a few laps Fletcher had to fend off Brett Adkins for the top spot.

Several times Adkins made a run at Fletcher only to be denied. On lap 16 Fletcher opened the door as he bobbled in turn 4 allowing both Adkins and Suite to get to his inside in a three wide race for the lead with Adkins taking control. On out front Adkins was able to stretch out his lead and capture his fourth win of 2008. Following Adkins to the checkers were Kevin Fletcher, Wayne Suite, Wesley Givens and Bob Terry. Suite was the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race with his third place finish.
