SBS Crowns Four New Division Champions

South Boston, VA. --

It was championship night when South Boston Speedway hosted the running of Saturday night’s Embarq presents Sunoco 150 racing program. And, there was no better way to celebrate the end of the track’s points season by crowning new first-time champions in all four of the track’s NASCAR racing divisions.

Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. won the night’s 150-lap race for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division and, in doing so, locked up the division championship. It was Ramsey’s second career track championship but it was his first NASCAR track title.
The win was Ramsey’s sixth of the season and his third win in a row.
Ramsey entered the race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division with a 31-point lead in the division points standings over second-place driver Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C. Johnson suffered the misfortune of blowing an engine in the day’s second round of practice for the Late Model Stock Car Division. With Johnson out of action and the car count being such that there would be no way Johnson could overtake him in the points standings, Ramsey was free to make an all-out run for the race win.
Ramsey got past pole winner Ronald Hill of Rougemont, N.C. on the 27th circuit and took the lead for good, holding off Hill in a five-lap dash to the finish following the race’s final caution period to seal the win.
Hill finished second, .633-second behind Ramsey with C.E. Falk of Virginia Beach, Va., Deac McCaskill of Raleigh, N.C. and Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.
Michael Hardin, Owen Miller of Emporia, Va., Scott Marshall, Dude Gibbs of Seaford, Va. and Timothy Nice of Powhatan, Va. completing the top ten finishers.

Ramsey averaged 76.481 mph in the race that took just over 47 minutes to complete.
Pulliam Wins Limited Sportsman Division Crown
The much-hyped and much-anticipated battle between two-time defending Limited Sportsman Division champion Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. and Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C. in the night’s 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division turned out to be everything fans had hoped – and more.
Entering the race tied for the division points lead, the pair qualified on the front row and spent the bulk of the first 20-laps racing side-by-side in a torrid battle for the lead. A small slip by Anderson in the fourth turn allowed Pulliam to break clear on the 20th lap. Pulliam held on the rest of the way, fending off Anderson in a two-lap green-flag dash to the finish that followed the race’s final caution flag to win the race and the division championship.

The win was the third in a row for Pulliam and was Pulliam’s seventh win of the season.
Anderson finished second, 1.098 seconds behind Pulliam with Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va., Jeb Burton of Halifax, Va. and Puerto Rico native Jan Valez rounding out the top five finishers.
Pulliam averaged 42.389 mph in the race that was slowed by five caution periods.
Crosby Wins Pure Stock Race; Allred Take Division Championship
Courtney Crosby of Scottsburg, Va. picked up his second win of the season in the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division but it was Joe Allred III of Scottsburg, Va. that snared the division championship.
Crosby took the lead from rookie Michael Jones of South Boston, Va. on the 14th lap and held on the rest of the way to earn the win. That race went down to the wire with Crosby holding off runner-up Justin Tucker of Elon, N.C. in a seven-lap sprint to the finish that followed the last of the race’s three caution periods.
Jones finished third with Quain Moore of Callands, Va. finishing fourth and Allred finishing fifth, a finish that was good enough to secure the division championship.

The race was a good one throughout with the lead changing hands twice among three drivers. Moore led the first six laps before Jones charged to the front on the seventh circuit. Jones’ turn at the head of the pack didn’t last long, either, as Crosby grabbed the lead on the 14th lap and held it the rest of the way.
Darryl Lacks Takes Modified Division Title
Darryl Lacks of Goode, Va. nailed down the championship in the Yellow Book USA Southern Vintage Modified Division with a runner-up finish in the 25-lap race for that division.

Lacks, a two-time winner this season, entered the race with a slim nine-point cushion over Randy Smith of Bassett, Va. and secured the division title with his second-place finish while Smith had to settle for a third-place finish.
Donnie Lacks of Goode, Va. won the race to score his first victory of the season. He took the lead from Darryl Lacks on the second lap and fended off his challengers in a 10-lap dash to the finish that followed the race’s final caution period.
Next Race At South Boston Speedway
With the track’s points season having ended, South Boston Speedway has one of its biggest events of the season scheduled for its season finale – the Mason-Dixon 500. That event, scheduled for October 24 and 25, will feature a doubleheader for the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division and the PASS Super Late Models.
