Podium Finish at Caraway Inches Andy Seuss Closer To WSMT Victory Lane

New Hampshire Racer Wheels Riggs Racing #47 To A Third-Place Finish

This season in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, Andy Seuss has wheeled the Advance Auto Parts #47 Riggs Racing to multiple top-five finishes, including a pole position earlier in the season at Caraway Speedway (NC). Seuss and the team have been ready to inch the car a bit closer to victory lane, and on Saturday at Caraway he came close, finishing the 150-lap event in third.

Seuss started the event from the eighth position, but quickly drove his way up to the top five before lap 15. While the leaders were fighting for the low line, Seuss drove to the high side of the track, passing the competition like they weren’t moving until he got alongside the leader.

“The car was just hooked,” said Seuss. “The guys up front were slowing down, setting their own pace. It was actually cooking my brakes slowing down for them, so I just figured if I could get there I could settle in out front and set my own pace.”

After a few attempts to take the lead, Seuss was drop-kicked back a few spots, which caused some handling issues that took him out of the mix for the victory. Still, though, the New Hampshire driver didn’t give up, racing his way back up to the third position at the end of the event.

“The car was never the same after that,” explained Seuss. “Something must be bent in the shock tower. It was a shame. We had a real good car, but third place is real good.”

While it wasn’t a victory for Seuss and the team, the driver and the crew members were thrilled with their podium finish as well as the momentum this finish will hopefully continue for the rest of the season.

“I hope this will keep the momentum going. We have had some bad luck and needed a good run to keep us going. This car is right where it needs to be, running in the top five. It is up to me to get it in victory lane, because that is what these guys are used to doing.”

The next shot for Seuss to put the Riggs Racing #47 Advance Auto Parts machine in victory lane will be this coming weekend, sooner than originally planned due to a rescheduled race from earlier in the season because of bad weather.

“We were scheduled to race Loudon (NH) with our own car, which is a big deal to us since it is in our home state and we have run well there in the past,” said Seuss. “But, with the rainout earlier this year at Southern National (NC), we will be going to the rescheduled race this weekend instead. It is a disappointment that they rescheduled the race on the Loudon weekend, but we will be strong there.”

Andy and the Advance Auto Parts Riggs Racing team return to action on Saturday, September 13th, when the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour makes a stop at North Carolina’s Southern National Raceway Park.
