OCS News Release, Sept. 8th

Rougemont, NC. --

Two of the region’s best short track stars continue their chase to be a champion at 7 pm this Saturday night, September 13th, when Orange County Speedway hosts its final night race of the season.
All eyes will be on Stacy Puryear and Terry Dease in a 150-lap TAG-OUT Late Model Stock Car race, the main event of a six-race program that starts at 7 pm with a total of 330 laps scheduled.

South Boston resident Puryear leads defending TAG-OUT champion Dease by a scant eight points. “My team won’t stop working, that’s for sure,” said Puryear, seeking the first championship of a 21-year career in the sport. “We have been trying different chassis settings every week. We are certainly not content.”

“There are four or five guys that still have a shot,” said Oxford mechanic Dease, “but really it has boiled down to Stacy and me. There are three races left that count toward the championship and this will be the last one at night. This is what my guys work so hard for… to be in a position to win it. I’m looking forward to it!”
David Triplett of Timberlake took a season-best third victory here on August 23 and moved to fifth in standings, 76 points off the top. “I’ve been racing here for years and finally have this place figured out,” said Triplett. “The car is awesome and we haven’t touched our chassis all season. But we’ve had a couple of bad races when things out of our control happened.”
Puryear concurred: “Triplett’s car has been the class of the field. If it weren’t for his bad luck, we’d all be chasing him for the championship right now.”

Defending Limited Sportsman champ Brian Cole finds himself in the middle of a hornet’s nest for that 2008 division title. Cole finished sixth in a 50-lap race on August 23 and fell to third in standings, 12 points behind leader Donald Brace of Apex.
“We’ve won three races and have had a fast race car,” said Roxboro’s Cole. “But my car has been a wreck magnet for some reason. This is a tough division and everybody is fighting every lap for position. I’m going to try to win these last three races and see what happens.”
Daryl Carver of Prospect Hill took his second Limited Sportsman victory on August 23 and moved to within eight points of Brace. “I just hope we can continue this momentum,” said Carver. “Donald Brace has been very consistent, so I’m going to have to go for wins to pass him. It’s nice to be up there in the middle of it.”

Ray Ellington, Jr., of Madison Heights, Va, leads the Trailers of the East Coast Grand Stock division by 16 points over Yanceyville’s Cory Purnell.

Pittsboro’s Keith Langston has been the three-eighths mile track’s most dominant driver this year, winning six times in the four-cylinder Pure Stock class. He is a comfortable 54 points ahead of Durham’s Tony Ivey in a system that awards as much as 52 points to a race winner.
Saturday’s night action is the 13thof 16 events scheduled here this year. Officials said races set for October 4 and October 18 and a Championship 300 Late Model race on November 1 will begin at 2pm in deference to cooler weather and to accommodate families with small children.
More information about Orange County Speedway racing is available at the track’s website www.ocstrack.com
