Sep 8, 2008 - updated Sep 8th, 2008 3:12pm
Web posted by Dave Seay

Jamaica, VA --

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will return back to action this Saturday September 13th to host WIGO / Richamond.com “Kids In Uniform” Night. All children wearing a football, baseball, softball, soccer, Boy Scout or Girl Scout uniform will be admitted free.

All five of the tracks divisions will be competing in Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Championship action. There are only two races left in the chase for the Championships!

Competitor gates for Saturday, September 13th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps.

Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday September 13th: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); New Generation Racing Sprint Cars (25 Laps); and Limited Stock Cars (20 Laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features.

Adult admission is just $10, Senior and Military $8, Students 13 –17 yrs old $7, Children 7 – 12 yrs old $4 and Children 6 and under free. The Speedway offers a Family Pack for two adults and two children 12 and under for only $20.

NEWS AND NOTES:
SEASON FINALE: The Fall Classic has always been an important date on many racers calendars over the years. The 39th edition of the Fall Classic, to be held Saturday September 20th, will take on more significance as it will now host the final point races for all five divisions as well as host round 4 of the Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T. Walker Arthur of Forest, VA, Tom Cohick of Gloucester, VA and Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD all have a shot at a $5000 bonus if one of The New Generation Racing Sprint Car event will also take on more significance as the CRSA 305 Sprint Car Series out of New York is sending a contingent of drivers down to compete in a North verses South shootout. This will be one race you do not want to miss!

POINTS TIGHT: I know it is mentioned every week how tight the points are this year in several of the track’s divisions, well we will say it again as we head into the final two point races of 2008.

Stevie Long of Mechanicsville, MD couldn’t have found a better time to get his first win of 2008. Long not only picked up the checkers in round 3 of the Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T, with the victory he also the Late Model division point lead. Long will head into next week’s race with a ten point advantage over Walker Arthur of Forest, VA. The stakes are high as the Champion will receive a $10,000 check for his efforts. The battle for third is also tight with Tom Cohick and defending Champion Austin Hubbard being separated by only one point.

The Limited Stock Car point battle got interesting a couple of weeks ago with Bob Terry of Stafford, VA closing to within 8 points of current point leader Wesley Givens of New Kent, VA. Terry, the 2007 Charger Division Champion, will try to reel in the seventeen year old Givens when they get back into action on September 13th.

The chase for the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Championship is the tightest it has ever been with four drivers with a real shot at the overall championship and the $2000 prize. Truckin Thunder Sportsman point leader Tim Shelton, Budweiser Modified point leader Matt Marshall and New Generation Racing Sprint Car point leader Daren Bolac all have five wins and a bevy of top five finishes. Throw in Victory Lap Late Model competitor Walker Arthur as he sits with four wins and a good shot at tying the other three over the next two events. This one is going to be tight!

MUD BOGGING TIME: The 4th Annual Run A Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling at “The Pit” is quickly approaching as it is scheduled to take place on Saturday October 4th. Last year over 5000 spectators packed “The Pit” to see the areas best tackle the very difficult 200 foot mud bog pit. Also on tap for will be the 1600 horse power mud dragsters and a monster truck freestyle show my Stone Crusher. Rules and registration forms will be available on the tracks website by September 8th.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a ½ mile dirt oval track located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
