Aug 23, 2008 - updated Aug 23rd, 2008 5:58pm
Web posted by Dave Seay

Jamaica, VA. --

Polevoy, Archer get career firsts and Bolac returns to victory lane.

Walker Arthur of Forest, VA made it two in a row in the Victory Lap Late Model division at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway by taking the 35 feature on Cintas / WRAR / WNNT Night. Arthur took the lead from Stephan Evans of Tyner, NC on lap 8 as the two raced through heavy traffic and then pulled away to cruise to his fourth win of the season.

“The competition here at VMS is a good as it gets, I don’t know if I could have gotten by Stephen (Evans) if not for the slower traffic,” commented Arthur in victory lane.

Stephan Evans and Tony Buckler led the field to green with Evans leading the first lap. Caution would come out on lap 2 and on the restart Arthur dove his car inside Evans in turn 3, the two touched coming out of turn 4 with Evans holding on to the lead.

On lap 7 in heavy traffic Arthur made the right choice and took over the lead from Evans. Once out front Arthur began to pull away as Evans and Long battled for second.

On lap 15 Evans jumped the cushion in turn 3 and Long took advantage to take over second. Evans kept the pressure on Long for second and over the next 14 laps Evans worked to find the line around Evans. Finally on lap 30 Evans got a huge run off of turn 2 to pull even with Long as they raced into turn 3. As the two exited turn 4 Evans had enough room to take over the second spot.

With Evans and Long battling for second Arthur was able to cruise on to his fourth win of the season. With the victory Arthur also re-took the division’s point lead over long. Trailing Arthur to the checkers were Stephen Evans, Stevie Long, Austin Hubbard and Scott Adams. Ben Bowie was the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race with his eighth place finish.

In other action Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA held off point leader Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA to pick up his career first Budweiser Modified feature victory. In the New Generation Racing 25 lap feature Daren Bolac passed Kyle Pruitt of Ijamsville, MD for the lead on lap 8 and then cruised to his fourth win of the season. In the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Sam Archer of Waldorf, MD withstood a five car battle for the led to pick up his career first victory.

In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA and Brandon Galloway of Gloucester, VA led the 25 car field to green with Galloway leading the first lap. Caution would come out for the first time on lap 2 when Mack Tatum spun in turn 2 and collected several others in the process.

On lap 7 Polevoy looked to get inside Galloway in turn one but couldn’t get enough bite off the corner to make the pass. On lap 9 the battle for the lead got three wide as Galloway, Polevoy and Dan Arnold raced off turn 4 with Polevoy taking over the top spot at the line.

Polevoy paced the field with little challenge until Matt Marshall pulled up on his back bumper on lap 16. Over the next nine laps Marshall would pressure Polevoy for the lead but couldn’t make the youngster make a mistake.

Polevoy would hold Marshall off on the races final restart to go on and record his career first victory. Following Polevoy to the checkers were Matt Marshall, Gary Conner, Dan Arnold and Mark Schools. Matt Marshall was the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race with his second place finish.

In the New Generation Racing Sprint Car 25 lap feature Matt Stambaugh of Fredericksburg, VA and Kyle Pruitt of Ijamsville, MD led the field to green with Pruitt leading the first circuit with Brent Bordeaux, Stambaugh, Daren Bolac and Tyler Walker in tow.

On lap 3 Bolac took second from Bordeaux with a slide job in turn 2. Once in the second spot Bolac set out to catch Pruitt who had jumped out to an almost full straight lead.

On lap 7 Bolac took a peak inside Pruitt in turn 3 but with no success. The two raced inches apart as they raced into turn 1 where Bolac slid his ride in front of Pruitt to take the lead. Once out front Bolac set sail to cruise to his fourth victory of the season. Following Bolac to the checkers were Kyle Pruitt, Eric Keck, Tom Humphries and Mary Anne Williams. Brent Bordeaux was the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race with an eighth place finish.

In the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Sam Archer of Waldorf, MD and Wayne Suite of Mechanicsville, MD led the field to green with Archer leading his first lap ever at VMS. suite tried several times to get under Archer for the lead but couldn’t pull off the pass.

On lap 4 Kevin Fletcher swept the outside of Suite and Archer to go from third to the lead in two corners. Fletcher paced the field for the next ten laps with Archer working to regain the lead. On lap 16 Fletcher bobbled in turn 2 giving Archer enough room to take the lead with James Givens, Brett Atkins and Bob Terry following to put Fletcher back to fifth.

A late caution closed up the field for a green, white, checkered finish. On the restart Givens went outside Archer in turn 2 with Atkins sliding to the inside and taking over second, terry followed to third. At the white flag you could throw a blanket over the top four cars as they raced back to the checkers.

Out of turn 4 Terry muscled his way past Atkins for second as Archer took his career first victory. Rounding out the top five were Bob Terry, Brett Atkins, James Givens and Wayne Suite. Archer was the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race with his the victory.
