Saluda, VA --

The tentative 2006 schedule for Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway has been released and includes 23 weeks of Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Championship action starting with opening night April 1st and ending September 22nd – 23rd with the 37th Annual Fall Classic. To see the entire 2006 schedule in its entirety visit the Speedway’s website at www.vamotorspeedway.com.

The Speedway will hold an open practice for all divisions on Saturday, March 25th from 9am till 5pm. All cars must be registered and inspected before allowed to practice. Competitors are encouraged to register before the open practice. Registrations are currently being accepted with the top twenty in each class having their number saved until February 15th when all numbers will become first come first served. Competitors can obtain a 2006 registration form by going to the tracks website or by calling the speedway Monday through Friday 10am through 3pm at (804) 758-1867.

Returning during the 2006 season will be the very successful Victory Lap Late Model $25K Challenge Series for steel head late models. The four race series will offer a bonus program for multiple wins. The Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge will once again pay a $5,000 bonus to anyone winning two of the four events with it going to $15,000 if a driver wins three of four events. And finally, if a driver sweeps all four events that driver would pick up a cool $25,000 bonus. Track rules for the Victory Lap Late Model Division will apply.

“With the success of the Victory Lap Challenge over the last three years we felt it was imperative to bring back the Challenge Series and give our steel head late models four premier events during the 2006 season,” commented Track Owner Bill Sawyer.

Tentative dates for the Victory Lap Late Model $25K Challenge Series are April 29th, June 10th, August 5th and September 2nd.

VMS will also hold three special events for the Super Late Models during the 2006 season. Tentatively scheduled are the World of Outlaws Late Model Series on April 8th to be taped for the Speed Channel, the Lucas Oil Dirt Car Series on June 17th in front of the Speed Channel cameras once again and the MACS Series on August 19th. All four races will be $10,000 to win events.

The Speedway will also host an AMA Grand National event on July 15th for the very first time. Also visiting Virginia Motor Speedway for the first time will be the Emmett Hahn’s O’Reilly ASCS National 360 Tour will visit the ½ mile speed plant on May 27th.

Also new for 2006 season will be the return to a two-day format for the 37th Annual Fall Classic to be held September 22 – 23rd. The long-standing event will close the racing season.
