Virginia Motor Speedway Headed To Motorsports 2006 Show

Virginia Motor Speedway is headed to the 21st Annual Motorsports 2006 presented by VP Racing Fuels January 13-15, 2006. The popular show produced by Len Sammons Productions will be held at the Ft. Washington Expo Center in Ft. Washington, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia.

Motorsports 2006 Presented by VP Racing Fuels will cover close to 300,000 square feet of the Expo Center with more than 600 exhibit areas offering just about everything automotive. Close to 200 racecars will be on display and there will be appearances by many of the top names in the sport along with many local and regional stars including Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace, Jeff Hammond, Kurt Busch, Don ‘Big Daddy’ Garlits and many others.

Fans that come by the Virginia Motor Speedway booth (#233) will get a chance to see dirt Late Model driver Doug Drown’s sleek Rocket Chassis #12 and the Speedway’s own Renee Weeks E-Mod on display at the mid-winter extravaganza that is dedicated to everything motorsports.

Doug Drown, a former Renegade Dirt Car Series and MACS regular, will embark on his upcoming 2006 ‘Black ‘n Blue’ tour that will see the 23-year-old young gun run an extended schedule of high-profile events including non-sanctioned races as well as those sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, World of Outlaws Late Model Series, Mid Atlantic Championship Series (MACS), UMP and Sunoco ALMS. Drown will be at all three Super Late Model specials at Virginia Motor Speedway during the 2006 season.

The 18 year old Renee Weeks of Powhatan, VA finished 2nd in the Budwieser Modifed division at the track. Weeks led the division points much of the 2005 season and scored two wins during the season.

Also visiting the booth on Saturday January 13th from 1 – 4pm will be 7-time AMA Grand National Champion Chris Carr. Carr will sign autographs alongside Doug Drown. Carr will be promoting the Speedway’s July 15th Joe Weatherly Memorial AMA Grand National event. It will be the first time in 36 years that the National motorcycle tour has visited the sate of Virginia.

The Virginia Motor Speedway booth will also host the popular dirt racing radio program, Dirt Nation™ presented by Lucas Oil for the entire weekend as hosts Dave Seay and Doc Lehman broadcast live on Friday January 12th from 6 – 8pm and on Saturday January 13th from 4 – 6pm. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads areas.
