Chad Finchum Dominates To Win Summer Shootout Championship

Knoxville, TN. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 14, 2008

Tennessee Racer Wins Third Bandolero Young Guns Championship In Dream Season

There are very few drivers in the sport of auto racing that get the opportunity to dominate a series from start to finish. Even when a driver is at the top of their game, it is nearly impossible for them to win 80 percent of the time on the track, especially in the most prestigious and well-known series for their style of racing.

So, when Chad Finchum entered the 2008 Summer Shootout Series at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (NC) looking to not only win the Bandolero Young Guns championship, but dominate on the track and win all 10 rounds, it was a goal most felt was impossible. While the racer from Tennessee came up slightly short of that goal, his eight wins in 10 events impressed everyone as he claimed the Shootout Championship.

Entering the final race of the season, Finchum had built up such a large points lead over the competition that all he needed to do was take the green flag in the feature. Such an easy task seemed difficult when a yellow flag was displayed before the first lap was complete. Complicating things further, he thought he had an issue that might have forced him off the track.

“They told me that all I had to do this race was to get in one lap under the green,” said Finchum. “We ran about a quarter of the lap and there was a caution. I got a little nervous because I thought something was going to happen to me. Then the Raceceiver battery died, but we got it working again while I was out there running.”

Once the drama of the first lap was over and he knew the championship was his, Finchum set his eyes on the front of the field as he wanted to go out winning the title and the race.

“We were going for the win from the start, like we always do, but I was also trying to drive a little more cautiously than I usually do. I was trying to stay out of every wreck. There was a wreck right in front of us off of turn four. I had to use a really safe move; I wasn’t sure if I was going to dodge it, but luckily we did. Luckily, we got the championship.”

The eighth win of the Shootout added to the dream season Finchum has had to date. It was his 28th Bandolero Young Guns victory of the year and his third series championship in 2008 after he claimed the Winter Heat Championship at Lowe’s Motor Speedway and the Winternationals Championship at Orlando Speedworld (FL) earlier this season.

“This has been a great year for my A-1 Finchum Heating & Cooling team. I have to thank all of them for their hard work and dedication every week. If it wasn’t for them, my mom and my dad, I wouldn’t be able to win races and championships leading up to the Shootout, and I wouldn’t have been able to win eight races and the championship in my #19 Embassy Suites Charlotte-Concord Golf Resort & Spa Bandolero in the Summer Shootout Series at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. My sponsors have all been vital to the success of our race team, and I want to thank them for their continued support of my career.”

While the Summer Shootout Series has ended, there are more races to be run and won for Finchum. During the remainder of the season, he will continue to hone his skills on tracks across the country, including running in the Bandolero Nationals coming up at the end of August at the Indianapolis Speedrome (IN).
