Eight Top-Five Finishes Earns Devin Jones Second In Summer Shootout Series

Mooresville, NC. --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 14, 2008

Legends Young Lions Driver Has Successful Season At Lowe’s Motor Speedway

The Summer Shootout Series at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (NC) is known as the most prestigious Legends Car Series in the world. The 10-round event occurs every summer on the front-stretch quarter-mile oval in the heart of Stock Car country. That makes every points position during the series critical on a driver’s resume.

Devin Jones entered the 2008 Summer Shootout in the Legends Young Lions division looking to make a mark on the sport by being one of the best drivers on the track. After 10 long weeks and hard-nosed racing action, Jones finished the Shootout with eight top-five finishes, which secured him second in the championship points.

Entering the final race of the series, Jones had a shot at the title, but motor woes cost him a top-five finish and a chance to make the run for the championship.

“Our motor was bad at Wake County (NC). We thought we were going to be ok for this race, but on the long run the motor got really hot and eventually it got to the point it was at Wake,” explained Jones. “It almost didn’t start after the red flag. We were just trying to salvage our car and not get into any wrecks.”

With veteran-style patience, Jones nursed his #35 Legends Car to the finish line in sixth, securing the second position in the points.

“This is where the toughest competition comes to race, and this is where the action is,” said Jones. “We still ended up second in points. It was overall just a good season for us.”

Jones has benefited each week in the Shootout from a great support group. His family has been there every step of the way from every angle to help him earn respect amongst the racers in the sport.

“My dad is always working long hours in the shop trying to find out how to make my car a little bit faster, my mom is always there trying to help on the business end and my brother is there at the races cheering me on. It is a family affair, and we are all happy to be doing so well and running up front.”

Now, with the Summer Shootout in the books, Jones and his race team are looking forward to continued success throughout the season at many tracks across the South and beyond.

“Our whole team has worked hard getting us to where we are. Just to have a shot at the championship, even though we came up short, is still a great season for us. I think we have put our mark on the Legends all summer. Our program has definitely stepped up, and we hope to continue that into the fall. We are going to try and keep the momentum going and try to get some more wins before the season is out.”
