South Boston Speedway News
Twin Limited Sportsman events Saturday at SoBo could play major role in determining 2008 division champion

South Boston, VA. --

Believe it or not, the chase for 2008 track championships at South Boston Speedway is winding down.

Three more races remain to decide the 2008 Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car championship and four events are left before a champion is crowned in the Limited Sportsman Division.

Two of the remaining four events for the Limited Sportsman Division competitors will be held Saturday night when South Boston Speedway hosts the Italian Delight 150 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race program.

A total of five action-packed races will be waged on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval with the first set to get the green flag at 7 p.m. The rain date for the Italian Delight 150 will be Sunday, Aug. 17.

The Barkhouser Late Model Stock Cars will hit the track for a 150-lap shootout, while the Limited Sportsman Division competitors will battle it out in twin 50-lap races. Other events slated Saturday night include races for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Legendary Ford Flathead Series.

In the extremely close race for the championship in the Limited Sportsman Division, two-time defending champion Bruce Anderson owns a slim eight-point edge over Lee Pulliam. Both drivers have four wins at America’s Hometown Track this season and both have owned the top spot in the point standings during the current campaign.

Tommy Peregoy is looking to hold onto third place in the Limited Sportsman Division standings. He leads fourth-place Brian Pembelton by nine points.

The chase for the 2008 crown in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division also remains very close.

Three-time winner Wayne Ramsey sits atop the point standings with a slim 15-point lead over Justin Johnson, who has tallied four victories this season.

Deac McCaskill, who has been hot of late and now owns a pair of victories at South Boston Speedway, is seeking to move up to third place in the standings. He is currently fourth, but trails third-place Dude Gibbs, a one-time winner, by only three points.

Joe Allred continues to lead the points chase in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. He sits 25 points ahead of second-place Courtney Crosby. Michael Jones is third in the title chase, just four points behind Crosby and only 10 ahead of fourth-place Justin Tucker.

Pit gates will open Saturday at 1 p.m. with practice for all divisions beginning at 2:15 p.m. and continuing through 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 5:15 p.m.

Tickets are priced at $10 for adults. Youth, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $5 and children, ages 6 and under, will be admitted free. All youth must be accompanied by a paying adult to receive discounted admission.
