Tiffany Daniels Enters “Vegas to Reno” Best In The Desert Off-Road Event

Smithfield, Va --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEAugust 11th, 2008

Virginia Driver Heads West For Longest Off-Road Race In The United States

Asphalt racing is something Tiffany Daniels knows a lot about. From the early days of her driving career behind the wheel of a Legends Car to her current venture of Late Model Stock Car racing at tracks across the South, Tiffany knows how her racing machines act and react on the hard surfaces.

Now, the Smithfield, Virginia, native will tackle a new challenge as Tiffany will get off the asphalt and play in the dirt by racing in the Best In The Desert Series “Vegas to Reno” Off-Road event August 21st – 23rd with Glacier Bear Racing.

The event, billed as the “longest off-road race in the United States,” enters its 12th year in existence and features Cars, Trucks, UTVs, Quads and Motorcycles racing a 457.5 mile course, featuring some of the toughest and most varied terrain in the world. Over 300 entries are expected, including Tiffany, who will drive Jerry Moskel’s Ford F-250 in her first off-road race.

“The team owner is located in Mooresville (North Carolina). He contacted me in December about the race,” said Tiffany. “I didn’t know anything about off-road racing, but he asked me if I would like to drive and, of course, I said yes. I couldn’t believe this opportunity had just popped up out of the blue. We just went from there to talk about everything from the race event to the truck and what is involved in running in this type of race.”

Tiffany will not be alone on her venture as teams that compete in the Vegas to Reno event have multiple drivers per vehicle. Tiffany will be joined by another female racer as well as her brother, as the team will race in the Pro 8000 Modified Production Full Size Pickups & V8 Sport Utility Vehicles class, which is equivalent to SCORE Class 8.

“One of my co-drivers is Jessica Brannam, a Go-Kart racer from Illinois,” said Tiffany. “The other is my brother and Charlie Daniels Racing teammate Cliff Daniels. Originally it was supposed to be someone else, but when she backed out it gave Cliff the opportunity to drive. He had already agreed to be my navigator, so it worked out great for both of us. We work together at the track already, so we will not have to worry about miscommunication during the race. There are a lot of segments where he is either navigating for me or I am navigating for him and we should be able to utilize our teamwork to our benefit through those sections.”

Even though she doesn’t have experience racing in off-road vehicles or events, Tiffany feels confident that her adaptability and past experience racing in many different vehicles as well as some assistance from other racers at the track before the event will get her and her team to the finish line.

“This race is definitely different for me, but I do not hardly know enough about it to be worried,” explained Tiffany. “I am looking for this event to be a great opportunity to make contacts, meet new people, learn a new style of racing, and have some fun. Neither of my co-drivers has competed in any off-road racing events either, so we are all in the same boat.

“All of the drivers entered in the event will be there about a day and a half before the race, so I definitely plan on talking to a lot of other drivers once I get there and asking them questions.”

While being the first vehicle across the finish line is always the ultimate goal of any racer, Tiffany and her teammates are looking to benefit from the experience as well as race the entire near-500 miles.

“Our goal is to finish the entire race,” said Tiffany. “It is going to take all day and possibly a large part of the night to cross the desert, so it will definitely test our endurance. This truck has only been raced once before in the Baja 1000 SCORE race, and this is a totally unfamiliar type of racing in an unfamiliar vehicle for us, but we all feel that if we can finish we will do pretty well. We are mainly looking to enjoy the challenge, gain some off-road experience, and finish the race.”
