Wartburg, TN. --

(8-1-08)

Anthony White of Clinton has claimed many victories at Wartburg Speedway over the years, both on and off the Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series tour. The 34 year old racing veteran, however, appeared to be destined for second place on Friday night as Tommy Kerr of Maryville seemed to be on a mission to capture his first tour win of the season and second series win at “The Burg”. Fate wouldn’t have it that way though as Kerr’s power plant went south on lap thirty-seven of the forty lap affair.

White had previously claimed the PowerMaster Pole Award with a best lap of 12.203 seconds but the luck of the draw would place him fourth in the Sunoco Quick Six dash and would put Kerr at the point of the six lap event, which he would go on to claim. White managed to finish third behind Stacy Boles of Claxton. This would set up a front row start for Kerr and Boles for the forty lap feature.

It would be Kerr that would get the jump in the A-Main with Boles hounding him and White hounding Boles for second. In the meantime point leader Rick Rogers of Knoxville and Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville were vying for spots four and five as the series top five also made up the top five in Friday race.

All that would change however as the laps began to dwindle, Kerr finally seemed to be puling away a bit from White, who got by Boles for second early on, when steam began bellowing from beneath the hood of Kerr’s mount and finally came to rest on the front stretch ending his hopes of victory then and there.

From that point forward it was a three lap dash to the finish for White as he went relatively un-challenged to claim the victory and the $4,000 payday, subsequently making it two in a row for “The Dirty White Boy.” He also laid claim to victory at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia back on June 27th. “That’s not the way I like to win ‘em. Kerr was the one to beat tonight but we really needed this one to get back in contention for the championship” stated a jubilant White from Victory Lane. White’s second place finish did place him second in the standings behind Rogers and dropped Ogle back to third with Boles and Kerr still rounding out the top five.
