Logan Claims Two Wins

The night started off with the 600 Incorporated Legends. Paul Prince went spinning as the field headed into turn 1 to bring out the first caution of the night. The field then went green until lap 10 when chaos broke loose in turn 3 as someone dropped fluid on the track. Involved were the #99, #88,#27, #82 and last years track champion #66 Billy Gomez Jr. The red flag came out to clean up the fluid as Gomez headed to the hauler for repairs. The green flag waved again after a few minutes and the drivers got excited causing another caution on lap 11 involving the #82, #29, and #95. During the yellow, Gomez returned to the track to finish the race. The field went back to racing and 1 lap later the #29 of Bobby Gannon came to a stop in turn 3. The track management then decided to have a green, white, checkered finish and shorten the race due to time. The #27 of Kevin Yates took the checkered flag and the win. 2nd place went to the #99 of Sparky West. Rounding out the top 3 was the #22 of Paul Prince.

The North Carolina Iron Works Modified 4 Cylinder class proved a little less of a demolition derby. The green flag waved as Randy Pearce lead the field into turn 1 in his #18 with the #7 of Justin Jones to his outside. Keith Oliver went to make a pass off of turn #4 and lost control of his #88 machine bringing out the first caution of the night. On lap 8, Oliver attempted a pass on the outside and got into the slick marbles along the outside wall sending his machine around to bring out the 2nd and final caution of the race. Randy “Hot dog” Pearce pulled away from the field to win in his #18 Chassis Dynamics, Trans Medics, Rolesville Equipment Co. Ford. Justin Jones came home 2nd in his #7 Hair Worx, Frazier Landscaping automobile. T.J. Dillon wound up 3rd in his #06 Fuquay Embroidery, Steve Ashworth Racing Engines Ford.

The Harper Graphix Limited Late Model class ended up being the only caution free race of the night, but it was the first part of a bigger story. Young wheel man Zachary Marks took the pole in his #25 with the #51 machine starting on the outside. The 51 machine was being driven by former champion Jonathan Logan substituting for Jason White who unfortunately was unable to race. Logan looked almost robot like hitting his marks lap after lap never missing a beat. Jonathan Logan took the checkered flag and rolled into victory lane quitely in the #51 Southern Wake Automotive Chevrolet. Zachary Marks held on to claim 2nd place in the #25 Shulz Iron Works, C & J Welding Monte Carlo. Joe Heigl claimed 3rd in his #31 Performance Auto Body, Furniture 4 Less Monte Carlo.

The Dunn Benson Ford Super Late Model class became the 2nd part of the biggest story of the night. David Clark started on the pole in his #34 machine. Alongside in the #21 Ford was Jonathan Logan who was doing double duty. The green flag waved and Clark took the early lead and walked away from the field. On lap 20, the K7 of Big Jim Kelley came to a stop on the frontstretch to bring out the caution. Kelley quickly retired and the racing resumed. Logan began to claw closer and closer to Clark as 2007 track champion Alex Fleming battled to keep the car between the walls. Fleming was seen sideways entering turn 3 almost every lap and gained a lot of respect from the fans and drivers as he held on to the car and slowed down allowing the lead cars to pass. On lap 29, Logan took the lead and with it the story of the night. Jonathan Logan rolled across the finish line first in the #21 Advance Auto Parts Ford. David Clark took 2nd place in the #34 North Carolina Iron Works Chevrolet. Walt Gibson held on to 3rd place in his #47 WakeField Automotive Chevy.

The final race of the night was the Citgo Mini Mart 4 Cylinder class. Greg Carroll started on the pole in his 15c with the #71 of Todd Langdon starting on the outside pole. Langdon had an engine problem during practice that the crew was able to fix just prior to the heat races. The green flag dropped and so did Langdon's hopes of a victory. The #71 machine never came up to speed due to a transmission failure and he was forced to retire. During the chaos, the #88 of Kevin Jefferys spun off of turn 4 and made slight contact with the inside wall. The green flag waved and Carroll checked out on the field, but on lap 6 the #33 of Jesse Duke and the #50 of Daniel Vuncannon banged door to door down the backstretch and finally the contact sent the #33 sideways. But he held on to the car as the #50 slammed hard into the inside wall ending Vuncannon's night. Carroll again walked away from the field on the next green flag run which ended on lap 19 when the #88 of Jefferys and the #1 of Gaylord Stephenson made contact cutting the left rear tire on the #1 car sending him to the pits for the night. The field went back to green and Carroll went on to victory lane in his #15 The A/C Company, Stancil Oil Co, Amoco Foods Mustang. Trevor Noles came home 2nd in the #8 Noles Cabinets, Worth Wood Group Chevrolet. Aaron Champion rolled home 3rd in his #15 Honda.

Another great night of action at the bullring as Jonathan Logan claims two wins in two different classes. Join us this coming Friday for a regular racing program with double points for Modified 4 Cylinders and a return visit from the Dirt Cheap Sand, Rock, and Mulch Ucars.
